I think both this and the Redskins logos were great in the time they were created, but I also think they (and the names) should have been retired. Both things can be true at the same time.

What's also true is that Guardians was an absolute home run of a rebrand/name, while DC fumbled with Commanders.

catiebug

That would be entirely too charming, so they probably won't do it (bummer).

catiebug

I might be in the minority, but I also miss the vest jerseys. I wish teams that had them, like Arizona and Cincinnati, would bring them back.

catiebug

And if you rewatch this shit, it's such an undeserved reputation. They completely fell apart much earlier in the inning. Bill's error only put a turd cherry on top of the shit sandwich everyone else had built by then. But if you grew up in the 80's and 90's, you'd think Buckner singlehandedly lost them this game.

catiebug

I think you gotta redo this post then. With those options available, "most popular" is definitely Taylor with Madonna as the GOAT.

catiebug

Lmao, thank you so much for this. It's the energy I need to scroll on by this topic in the future. Helps to see it as another wacky conspiracy theory.

Bonus, it's a conspiracy theory that rides heavily on Taylor being a great actress... I actually love her, but we know she's not. 😂

I guess there's nuance. There are the child-free people who plan child-free events, but keep the expectations on parents pretty high. That gets frustrating.

Like planning a child-free destination wedding, but then get upset when all their friends with kids bow out because either they don't have access to a multiday babysitter or it would be prohibitively expensive.

Or planning a child-free game night, then expecting the same turnout you'd get with kids invited.

It's a pet peeve of mine when someone acts like planning a child-free event is a favor to me. "Oh, you probably need a break anyway!" Sure, but the labor of tracking down and coordinating the babysitter on a time frame you've decided is, in fact, extra labor. It's different when I text them and go "when's your next free night to babysit, partner and I want to go out to dinner". Doing it for someone else's event is hashing out a specific time frame, doing the math on travel time, trying to figure out how late we'll be back, does it start before or after bedtime, maybe passing through multiple sitters before I get one available for the whole time needed etc. That's all fine. It's just irritating for it to be presented a favor to me. I have no problem planning time away from the kids. I don't need you to force it on me. Plan your child-free event, just acknowledge that getting childcare is another task on top the many never-ending list of parenting tasks. Bringing the kids is not usually a lot of extra work. We leave the house all the time.

Honestly? If matching PJs matter that much to you and you can swing it, by a pair in every size up to like 5T or XS. Then use whatever fits that year. If a kid skips a size, maybe the next one will use it. If you end up in a weird spot where two kids both wear the same size, size the bigger one up and just sew a little tuck in at the waistband.

Looking back, I wish I had done this, lol.

As a SAHM with many, many working friends, the biggest thing we've identified as easier is that the house doesn't get messier throughout the day. It's the same chaos when they get home from work/daycare as it was when they all left that morning. Meanwhile, having the kids at home with you is just a never ending parade of pick up, clean up, make food, clean up, pick up, make food, pick up, clean up, etc, etc, etc. Completely invisible and draining and often left me feeling like I labored the entire day with pretty much nothing to show for it.

catiebug

I have lived all over and I would say the kind of policy you describe is in the minority. "Wear a [insert color] shirt" spirit days with no clothing provided by the school is by far the norm. There does seem to be a pendulum swing away from extremely complicated spirit day requirements to simple things like just a specific color because of the backlash from even well-off parents feeling like they had to make a shopping trip each time.

That's not to say that I disagree with you! I don't think kids should be left out. But the policy where you are is unusual. The expectations in most of the US will be "make it work with whatever you have at home" and the school will likely be operating from that baseline assumption. They should respond to the fact that OP's kid actually fucking wore red though. I hope she reaches out.

The Falcons are good. The 49ers mostly beat themselves. Both of these things can be true at the same time.

Fwiw, I fully expected this to be a loss and that was before I found out we were only gonna suit up like two and a half WRs.

catiebug

I'm a Niners fan and I think the score should be prorated on a curve based on the number of healthy WRs you were able to suit up.

catiebug

I'm sure there were any number of disappointed adults in the crowd shots you could have chosen for the second image. Why we trying to laugh at a crying child? He wasn't the one taunting.

catiebug

The real delusion is the comments acting like every person who makes this request booked the wrong seats to cause trouble or get away with something.

Sure, Jan. Late connections getting rebooked into a scattershot seating chart of whatever's fucking leftover never happen. Military families traveling on government tickets booked last minute never happen. People who chose seats together then get split up because someone with Emerald Diamond Centurion Super Special Frequent Flyer Boy status wanted the seat never happens. Mistakes never happen. Language barriers never happen. It's always "they booked the cheapest seats, then want to force people to move to accommodate them" 100% of the time.

Butker has regressive views on what women should value in life.

The "a woman just graduated..." punchline is a play on "an angel gets their wings" when a bell rings (a reference from "It's a Wonderful Life").

Basically, "when Butker fails, a woman succeeds (just to spite his ass)".

catiebug

That song is so underrated. I know it's a bonus track on her least streamed album, but it's incredible.

catiebug

I had to explain to my kids what the old name of the Commanders was the other day and I told them I was only gonna say it once, so they better fucking listen up.

catiebug

You are truly God's strongest soldiers. 😂

catiebug

Are they together for real, but just unwed? "Partner" or "brother-in-law". Nobody cares if your "brother-in-law" is legal or not if it fits the bill.

If they aren't together, just go with "niece/nephew's dad". This doesn't have to be this hard, lol.

As a fan stationed in Europe, I wish. I think it's for a watch party. This is only one of only two games all season that start and end during reasonable viewing hours in Europe (starts at 6pm for me in Italy, they usually start between 12pm and 3am).

edit: dyslexia strikes again

Pepsi lost the Cola Wars big time in America. I believe they aren't even third to Coke and Diet Coke anymore. That's Dr Pepper.

PepsiCo eventually pivoted to being a fast food company that also happened to produce soda. They have since shed the fast food business, but they have Gatorade, which is the top in its category. They're doing fine, lol. They just focus on diversification of brands than domination in the cola category.

Americans choose Coke. There's a reason "is Pepsi ok" is such a cultural touchstone. The number of people who request Pepsi and have to deal with Coke instead is miniscule compared to the other way around.

This is one of the most interesting phenomenons in sports to me.

I wouldn't call Andy Roddick generational talent, but I do wonder what kind of career he would have had if his peak hadn't happened to overlap with both Nadal and Federer's, lol.

Bonus: Secretariat ran every 1/4 mile of the track faster than the previous one. The horse literally got faster and faster throughout the entire race.

That's the part that gets me. It's a ridiculous feat for any mammal of any kind. Start running at record-setting speed. Now get faster each segment. That's just not how biology works 999,999,999 out of 1,000,000,000 times.

catiebug

I don't even follow CFB and I'll watch this clip start-to-finish every time it comes across my feed.

"Auburn's gonna win the football game!!!" is one of the best radio calls of all-time.

catiebug

I don't even think Niners and Chiefs fans want that either.
