I know it seems weird in the eyes of the western culture especially with so many countries are now legalizing marijuana. Since both Singapore and China have first hand witness on the severity of it which nearly destroyed China and permanently changed world history (Chinese migration to Singapore, end of dynastic rule, rise of ccp, civil war and creation of Taiwan...etc) that's most likely the reason why both countries nailed anyone so hard who caught with peddling drugs.

I'm not arguing whether is right or wrong or whether marijuana is considered a drugs or effectiveness of catching people within the boundary. Perhaps changed in time required an change in perspective. But I believe that's what Singapore had in mind with the official stand as a country
