Do you actually remember what worked for you, or are most cannabis rebuys based on half-memory? (self.TheOCS) [discussion]

I work at a cannabis shop and kept seeing people forget what actually worked for them, so I built something for that! (terpiq.ca) [review]

I vibe-coded a cannabis app because dispensaries remember what you bought, not what actually worked (terpiq.ca)

I’ve checked with MTO. They’ve asked me to file a FOI, which usually takes 90 calendar days.

chefboi248

Oh. Thank you for clarifying.! Saved me a lot of time.

chefboi248

I’m gonna try that

True true.

I asked out a girl, who is a regular customer at my workplace. She was beautiful, charming and always chatted up whenever she was in store. I asked her for her socials, and she was open to share them. After a few days of texting, I asked her out. She didn’t respond for a day, and then wrote a long text about how she’s busy with her life, and had some plans, and told me if I’d be open for a date after a month - sounded weird, but I said ok. I saw her a bunch of times in my workplace, but I never bought that up.

After a month, I texted her, if she was open - she responded saying she is still figuring out some stuff, and has to look at her schedule. She could have said a plain “No”, but decided to play the timing card. After that, whenever she shows up the store, I just walk away, or ask my colleague to serve her.

Soo many times..

The POS system logs the customer’s purchase, but not actual terpene preference and consumer’s after effects. Our app builds a terpene profile for consumer based off their experiences and after effects, and recommend better products, or more products aligned towards what they’re looking for.

chefboi248

That’s fair, and honestly this is the exact criticism I was hoping to hear.

The more I think about it, the main problem may not be “people need a better journal.” It’s that most people will not journal at all unless the app removes most of the work.

So I’m shifting the beta more toward:

scan/save the package while you still have it → quick check-in later → build a rebuy / avoid memory over time

Less “track your cannabis use,” more “don’t lose the good ones to memory.”

The comments here also made it clear that effects alone are not enough. Smoothness, flavour, freshness, burn, value, brand trust, and “would I actually buy this again?” matter a lot.

That changes how I’m thinking about the recommendation layer. It should not just say “similar THC/terps.” It should understand things like:

  • good smoke but weak effect
  • strong effect but harsh
  • great value but inconsistent
  • trusted brand
  • avoid this producer
  • daytime functional vs couchlocked

Appreciate the pushback. This is exactly why I posted before trying to make it look like a launch.

Thats actuall perfect. We are still in Beta and this insight is very useful. Currently we ask consumers to log their rating, repurchase intent, and if it delivered what they are looking for, and additional remarks. We designed the system to gather feedback and build the recommendation layer based on more logs.

This is super thoughtful feedback — genuinely appreciate it. A lot of what you mentioned is exactly where I think this gets more useful over time, and I’m trying to keep the beta focused first on the core loop:log → remember → learn patterns → get better recommendations

I understand this definitely needs traction!

Sending you a test link. DM.!

perfect! Just sent an link to the app, on the Mod email
