Lol yeah, they towed the city manager from his designated spot and lost the contract for awhile.

chemistscholar

Wild. 1500 is his nose dive? I remember when 30 was a big night for us.

chemistscholar

Lol, one of those records was set in a rental.

chemistscholar

Did they ever post a build?

chemistscholar

I don't think we're going to agree on this. I hold very little regard for social media, especially this website, and there's not anything you can say to change that so I see no way for you to change my mind on how I feel about about the research done or reddits response. I'm out. Enjoy your community, I guess.

chemistscholar

Because 7 8 9.

chemistscholar

Lol, hurt feelings on the internet is not 'tangible harm'.

I'm sorry you grew up rascist? But the internet and social media you grew up on that supposedly helped you grow, is dead.

You're helping a for profit company manufacture outrage, for free.

No, we don't need more arguments on social media. This place isn't host to a 'dying art'. It's a cheesey subreddit made for people to argue at each other.

Lol, I've never heard an Armageddon story before starting with the death of reddit. That's wild. Also I think the opposite, I'm pretty sure the death of social media and this website might actually help restore the 'torn social fabric' of the society. Idk, it might actually force people to interact in a way that's meaningful; not online.

chemistscholar

I mean either way, it ain't common.

chemistscholar

Huh, yeah i guess you're right, i haven't really been trying to explain that point.

Because, man, it's an internet forum. I don't think there's really anything anyone can do to one another on here to warrant calling it an "ethics violation". Like don't get me wrong, people can and do crappy things to each other but everyone has the means to protect themselves from harm. The first probably being to just not engage with crappy people and if that's not good enough we have the option of reporting blocking and/or banning.

Also, I'm genuinely curious, why are you a mod? Like, what do you enjoy about it because to me that sounds like a super not fun thing to do. As that's a bit of a non sequitur feel free to DM me your response on that.

chemistscholar

Lol I mean I'm pretty sure 400k puts you in the top 1% of wealth in the world, so yeah, pretty rare

chemistscholar

Ethics are not black and white like you are trying to frame it for your argument. It's a continuum. If this is an ethics issue than it's about as unethical as say...the average person going 2mph over the speed limit.

The way you are framing this honestly makes you, and the mod team, look like egotistical dishonest bad faith actors.

chemistscholar

What they did wasn't unethical. Saying it was, is wildly convoluting and aggrandizing the importance of reddit and this subreddit.

The only unethical thing I see here is this subreddit, and reddit the company, trying to supress important research on the impact of AI on social media.

As far as if it's scientifically valid or not, that should ultimately be left up to the professionals and experts who spend their lives on researching this stuff. Not you and a bunch of redditors. A team of real experts and experts in training designed this study. I, nor should anyone else, should trust your opinion on it, especially considering it's not even published by the researchers and able to be reviewed yet.

Also, I actually see people go into people's post history to then make a reply based on that often and, as a mod, I'm certain you do as well.

chemistscholar

Support the research that could lead to doing something about the issue of bots and AI; ask the researchers to publish their data.

chemistscholar

100%

chemistscholar

Thanks! And you're welcome!

chemistscholar

Yeah... I think this particular ethics issue isn't nearly important as the outcome of the experiment here. I agree it was unethical but...damn.

chemistscholar

Huh, that is a really interesting question.

chemistscholar

Huh, i went to report them, but 'being a bot' isn't an option.

chemistscholar

Lol what dude? Where are you getting this?

chemistscholar

100%

chemistscholar

I'm pretty sure that's how reddit is designed; pushing whatever ideals for the highest bidders.

chemistscholar

Lol yeah, it's funny to me that they are acting surprised about this.

chemistscholar

Lol

chemistscholar

I'd be interested as well

chemistscholar

They are refuting the claim you made that "they are parasites sucking money".
