this year, probably a 100 cds?  rebuilding a physical media catalog as I like the experience of deliberately listening to music and the ritual of putting something on.  rock, funk metal, classical, jazz, blues, occasionally pop, 80s

price wise: thrift stores for the win, the 'big box' thrift stores like savers, then places like HPB, then actual stores like Rasputin or amoeba.  online ebay usually wins, sometimes alibris, sometimes Amazon.

surfans f20 is an interesting modern replacement, click wheel is mechanical so a little stiff to me but works fine for the price point

I do think the provenance of works will become more of a thing.  if you are an author, have your workflow keep a history as you go along, which could be used to help show your authorship vs LLM magicing up large chunks.  could AI fake that? perhaps to a degree but given it is often poor at consistency it may be a while, and work flows could capture more and more exact timing,  etc as an audit log.  hard to say how it will play out, andike any system people try to cheat so it is all a balancing act.
