A lot of people are switching to Google Docs which is cross-platform.

My whole research career has been on Unix or Linux, including in corporate research. I also had a Windows laptop for office documents, but the need for that is fast receding.

Don't feel bad for asking for Linux, if you find it easier to work with, stay at it.

Many people doing Linux development these days use WSL, which gives most of the great advantages of Linux without having to sit in front of a new OS.
