My friends Alex V, Kyle K, and Tom Z all exhibited there; if you saw a case full of tiny but beautiful rocks, those are all theirs. We are all "thumbnail" collectors!
Oh, that's so cool! I did see that case of the tiny specimens! What a neat coincidence. And thanks for sharing the photo. I just love the pink. :)

No interaction between the cast other than Chloe and Isy
Not super surprised to hear this, because it really comes across this way in the aired episodes as well.

Your work is incredibly precise and polished for only 4 days of practice, and wheel-throwing is a notoriously difficult skill to learn, which is why people are side-eying. But after looking through your post history I see you are already an artist, and I think there are some skills in arts that will transfer from one medium to another. Since you love minerals so much, I can see why you would be drawn to the geometrically precise forms you've done here. It's really impressive! I hope you won't let some of the doubters keep you down. Just keep at it and share with us more when you've got more to show! :)
Btw, since you collect minerals, I was curious if you have any spodumene in your collection that you could share a photo of? It's a common glaze ingredient and I think it's so pretty in it's natural form. I recently saw the mineral collection at the Natural History Museum of LA County, which was expansive and had multiple spodumene specimens, which I loved seeing. I don't really collect minerals myself but I am a fan of spodumene. :)

Yes, that too! Chloe has been pretty much the clear winner since about episode 3, so I think Greg is trying to help level the playing field at the top even a little!

I too had issues with the show and stopped watching after a few seasons. I like the concept but the timelines just artificially cause issues, which I'm sure is by design. (The same reason they never give the bakers enough time to properly prepare recipes on GBBO.) My other issue with the Pottery Throwdown is that the potters don't have any control over the kiln. I realize it is common in a lot of studios for other people to fire your pieces, but in my very humble opinion, I feel like having mastery over pottery includes knowing how to use the kiln. Additionally, the potters being able to set their own firing schedules would probably prevent some of the issues that happen in the kiln rather than just being at the mercy of the schedule the kiln tech chooses.

This comment is funny to me, because after the episode I thought to myself, "perhaps this week's subreddit post will have less complaining about Richard "not trying" on tasks." Guess I was wrong about that prediction!

This was the best episode of this series, by far. I also lost it when Chloe was freaking out. I felt like Greg was hiding a smile as he awarded Richard the 5 points. Maybe I'm a sucker but I always find it hilarious whenever one contestant is being too serious about points, and Greg plays off that, to piss the person off even more.

That is beautiful. Hand woven? Porcelain?? That is insane. I was curious so I googled a bit, I found this set of vases for sale with a very similar style of woven pattern. I love learning about these unique styles of pottery making. The years of practice and skill it would take to learn something like this is so impressive.

I basically never shop at Fry's anymore. I've started shopping more at the farmer's market and Sprouts. If I'm paying that much, I'd rather pay it to a small business and for higher quality items. I'd forgotten how long a freshly picked vegetable actually lasts; the ones I get from the farmer's market stay fresh in my fridge ten times longer than the garbage from Fry's.

It's hard to see, but it's stamped on the bottom so it is definitely from a commercial pottery. There are imperfections on the bottom to be sure (the glaze ran and stuck and they sanded it down after the fact) but commercial potteries are still run by humans, so mistakes can happen. It is not ancient but it's likely from the 60s or 70s, so that's vintage to my mind.
I found a similar item (jar instead of tureen) here. They are from the same mold to be sure, but commercial potteries also use molds. The one linked is very expensive, but I think it is partly due to the fact that as mentioned in the blurb, that specific jar was used as set decoration on the Mary Tyler Moore show. To me that dates this mold to that era - so, vintage. Again it is hard to see what the stamping on the bottom is exactly due to the glaze, but I believe it has the standard "USA" stamp on the bottom you see on a lot of pottery in that era (to indicate country of origin), which also indicates it is commercial, as a home potter almost certainly wouldn't have bothered stamping "USA" on a home made piece.
Just thought I would offer another opinion.

I believe this because I've been a big Richard fan for a while and he is absolutely hilarious. I've seen people in this sub speculate that he isn't quick witted enough for TM and that's just crazy talk because he absolutely is. I've long felt the editing in this series has been doing him dirty.

Phoenix. It's a ~6hr drive to LA for us, and we love LA so we visit often.

Just got my tickets!! I'm so excited!!
I was in the 3500s when I first joined, originally predicted 90 minute wait but got through in just over half an hour. Lots of seats left. I got section J2, $218 for the tickets then $30 fees so $248 total for two tickets.

I thought she was HILARIOUS and one of my favorite contestants from that series. I am always so confused any time I come across someone shittalking her in this sub.

The task was so overly complicated it sucked all the humor out, and it's not even the first time this series they've done this. But then the other side of the coin is the overly simplistic and boring tasks like name the countries and pictionary.
Also is it my imagination or have there been less team tasks this series? Maybe there's the same amount but they're so bland they're not sticking in my memory. At the heart of my complaints is that there's less than zero chemistry between the contestants this series. I think bad tasking can be made up for with a group of people who are vibing and playing off each other. This group doesn't even look at each other, really. If I remember right there was a point in the last episode where Chloe put their hand on Isy's shoulder and I was like oh my god that's the first real interaction between anyone I've seen.
I don't know what happened this series but it's quickly going down as one of the worst I've ever watched. I'll hold off labeling it as the worst until the end.

Dang, this is the most personality and atmosphere I've ever seen downtown have. Amazing photos!

Do you work in the industry? Can you share the data behind this assertion?

Okay, so raise the prices. I think everyone would expect and understand prices going up, apart from the usual grumbling about raised prices. Prices are going up everywhere. But forcing pass owners to name their +1 isn't going to result in a huge burst of people buying day passes suddenly. People who weren't buying in tickets in the first place aren't going to suddenly start buying them.

? Where did I rant? I'm not the original person you were speaking to, I just jumped in because I wanted to know what you are referring to. So.. do YOU know why the Zoo is in this situation?
cosmicallyliminal
How did anyone "cause this situation"?
cosmicallyliminal
I completely agree with you in terms of this current administration cutting funding for pretty much anything related to science, but the Phoenix Zoo gets barely any money from government sources. Most of their money comes from tickets, food/retail within the zoo, and charitable giving (sponsorships, private funding organizations, etc). Most non profits do not actually get much government money, the odd grant here or there, but the fed does not directly fund much in terms of private non-profit entities.

It does suck. I have a friend who is a single mom, and she buys this pass. She brings her kids but then also would bring another adult along for companionship/help with the kids. I've gone a few times with her, often it's her mom, or another friend. Basically she doesn't have one single other person in her life who would be available to go to the zoo with her every time she wants to take the kids. So, I won't be able to go to the zoo with her and her kids, at least not spontaneously. I would have to plan ahead to budget out my own ticket price (because I will also be buying $30 or more worth of drinks/snacks once inside the zoo). This is just a money grab, plain and simple, and it will hurt people in non traditional family structures.
I imagine that person is not a hobbyist selling their own wardrobe off. They are probably doing this as their means of income, or are actually a brick and mortar business. Selling off old stock that won't sell, or selling off stuff they bought wholesale/cheap elsewhere.
