Finally, C++ has enough good tools to improve code quality 👍
It took us some years to get here...

If your're haunted by the Ghost of C++ Standard Past in your codebase, don't procrastinate to modernize your code 😉

I referenced 2 talks in the slides:

Too bad :(

You might be right about the format: it took Herb almost an hour to convincingly explain this point, in his excellent CppCon 2016 talk :)

My talk was meant to be more of a tapas for entry-level C++ :D

As for shared_ptrs (note that I specifically said shared_ptr, not smart-pointers, in general),

I think Herb Sutter explains it best (it in detail), in his CppCon 2016 talk:

The talk was meant as a teaser. The format for a Lightning Talk at CppCon is 5 minutes (max).

This is my favorite Lightning Talk at this year's CppCon.

Thanks, STL I keep forgetting that.

Thanks for sharing! We look forward to community feedback and contributions. I’m very excited about this project; gaining some serious traction...

Sharing is caring :)

I’m very happy about the warm reviews I received for this project. The feedback and the community excitement around this talk/tools well exceeded my expectations. This fueled our team to continue developing these tools. We have big plans going forward.

I’m glad you like the idea.

We’ve been hard at work on our tools to help on this path (PowerShell scripts and Visual Studio extension).

You can explore these on GitHub (link is in this thread).

Good luck !

I hope our tools can help you.

If you encounter any issues along the way, please submit a bug report in our GitHub project.

Feedback & suggestions are welcome.
