USA cars that have no Canadian parts have a counter tariff of 25 percent or something of American content. If they have some Canadian as part of CUSMA I believe there's an offset to maybe reduce the tariff amount
So there is a real financial disincentive to buying an American car. You can see it by looking at the price of the Polestar 3 (US Volvo plant) vs Polestar 4 (South Korea), or the price of Rivian which is only made in the US

That supply squeeze is the real bottleneck. If there were no waitlists how much higher could it go instead?

When I was getting quotes from ICBC back in Feb, with my years of experience + postal code and same coverages, Solterra was about 2.4K, bZ around 2.7K, vs existing 2016 Leaf at 1.9K and 2015 Subaru Forester around 1.6K

Third link in a day, is this even still news?

EV 6 doesn't even have a 2026 model year in Canada. It would have to be EV 5 which is a different shape

My opinion, the best time to ask if it's a good deal is before signing when you have a chance to back out, not after
After taking possession without a return policy there's no actionable item you can do if a bunch of people give you negative feedback.
At this point, accept it as a data point or bragging rights (leasehackr style), depending on how you feel

Man I replace my cabin air filter every year on a leaf, although it doesn't really look that bad every year

You are correct, it's just the intro of a lower trim with smaller battery

MCS and NACS are different shapes, I don't think they are compatible

And Australia winter is like San Fran or LA at its coldest

I expect 3 row SUV to enter Canada before minivans. They're just more popular

Australia has no domestic automotive manufacturing, at the end it was producing 150k vehicles.
Canada is still at 1 million plus
Since hybrids and plug-in hybrids count towards the quota too, I would expect a portion of the quota to be used there, especially in the plug-in hybrid market which a) has no Tesla and b) long waitlist especially at Toyota
3 row EV and trucks (both PHEV and EV) also seem more likely given that there's no EVAP on those and there's very limited selection today
Quota profit maximization is the name of the game instead of expecting low cost low margin vehicles

Careful that's bannable speech now
I firmly believe that everybody has a price. For those buyers, it's 42k plus taxes and a willingness to wait until December for delivery

Name one other CEO that is involved here
Also, saying the current US administration repealing point of purchase rebates, EPA fuel economy regulations and EV construction grants, and the previous US and Canadian administrations implementing a 100 percent Chinese EV tariff ruined EV adoption in North America is undeniable fact

There's a 5 cent bonus starting October or so for those who bought Grizzl-e chargers (12 months to pay out). No bump for the free rentals
So the owners now start at 10 cents and goes up to 11 cents at 5k kWh

Relative terms it's fairly flat, so this is probably the new normal for now?

In a two vehicle household none of range and infrastructure issues matter. When my Honda fit got totaled in a hit and run I bought a leaf with 100 km range to dabble. It ended up doing 75 percent of our annual mileage and the Subaru only gets driven when we needed greater than 100 km range, more cargo capacity or needed a second vehicle because both vehicles are being used
Pretty clear cut when we stopped driving the Subaru as primary vehicle

Subaru is a publicly traded company separate from Toyota which has a minority stake at most

Is $800/month enough to make an EV worth it when you factor in insurance, maintenance, depreciation, and charging costs?
The first question is how far are you driving. It's very different being a local door to door doing 50 km per day vs province wide doing 500km per day
