KC Reddit next July: "My God! Why does KC feel like Dallas?"

Just wait until we have a massive 2002-level ice storm this winter driven by the el nino - and all these people will be like, "Oh, what climate change?" We're all cooked... literally... :(

It's depressing to realize that while this year is the hottest on record for the Earth, it will probably be among the coldest years for the rest of your life.

I don't think this year's ads have been any worse than prior years, except the Vivek Ramaswamy ad featuring his opponent Amy Acton's mother - the woman Acton was removed from after said mother covered up sexual abuse by Acton's father. That's a pretty damn dispicable ad, and I hope it destroy's Ramaswamy's future political prospects (but it probably won't because he's a billionaire).

There was a Pho tour of KC post a few years ago.

So you're telling me that in order t buy the very first upgrade that costs 100 dirt, I have to click 300 times? No thanks! LOL (I immediately quit after clicking to get about 50 dirt)
The concept here is OK, but I think you need to get away from manual tapping very quickly through upgrades. And Bertha starting a 1 dirt every 4 seconds plus crazy amount of initial clicking is going to lead people to quit very quickly - so I would focus on balance of clicks/upgrades and reset it.

I played it for a few minutes, but it's too much active play - people aren't going to spin over and over for very long. I would just introduce automation off the bat (start auto spin slow and then upgrade with gold or something).
The second thing would be that many times spinning reels don't produce anything on the left or the right side - I would always have something show up on both sides so there's a reward of progressing. Having nothing show up feels like a wasted spin.
I didn't earn enough gold to get going further and upgrade, but I do like the theme of the game and would play it more if it were more idle instead of active play.

I was thinking this would be perfect for some Mormon 3-wife harem type situation. Why would they even show the strip pole room in the listing? I'd think you'd explain it in person as some kind of bonus room or something when people show up for a tour.

This is way too complicated for America's voters to understand.

Looking at that profile pic of them in the post, they don't look super happy together to begin with. Also hilarious that after years of Ethan digging into other people's messes, the same Try Guys "wife guy" lie leads to Ethan's own downfall. LOL

Owen said. “And specifically, I had a very hard time getting the machine to accept my vote for Sen. (Roger) Marshall. It kept going to (Adam) Hamilton.”
Even the voting machine is smart enough to know that Marshall is an idiot!

as an American, we should all be visibly disgusted by the blatant attempts at buying votes to support Trumps plan. We all know this is a crock of shit.
Agree with you, but unfortunately the type of swing voters who joined on to Trump 2024 would have been OK with exactly this type of $5K payout because they thought Trump was gonna "rig the system" in their favor.
IMO the only reaon all this blue wave stuff is happening is because these same people have realized Trump is only rigging things in his own favor - which is why corruption went from being a complete non-issue among those voters to being a top issue after gas went to $5 and the economy is tanking. If Trump had merely not done the tariffs and not started the Iran war, I think all those voters would still be with him.

You know who likes Vance? The billionaires who will fund his promotion to GOP presidential nominee in 2 years.
All these Trump/Vance/etc visits are just about getting Roger Marshall in the news for something besides suing and getting his patients arrested.

How did I have to scroll down this far for this comment? WTF

They probably bought a list, but the origin of your number is from your publicly available voter registration record.

In general for the KC area, JoCo districts (Blue Valley, Olathe, and Shawnee Mission) are going to be some of the best schools/districts in KC and Kansas. Individual schools can vary, which you can see at the state score difference on websites like this.
The thing is, though, like everywhere, school quality largely tracks your household income and home value - even in the same city. In Olathe, you're going to see newer schools in areas of higher housing costs and income, who will, on average, perform better mostly because of all the high income kids in the school.
But I think it's true that at any school - even the 'worst' schools in the area - your kids' educational performance is largely driven by your personal involvement, getting the kids to study, getting them to participate in activities, keep out of trouble, etc - and much less so the overall school itself, because even in a school where you have, say, some low-income apartments nearby with relatively lower-performing kids, a relatively higher income kid in that school is still going to perform well because of the things I mentioned above.
If you can tell us what your home budget is and the areas you're thinking about living, I think people could give you a sense of where they would choose to live among those areas, and not just for school reasons (because I think all the schools are reasonably good). My advice is to avoid west Olathe - particularly newer areas anywhere south of College Blvd and west of K7 - only because traffic out there is terrible and I personally wouldn't want to drive it all the time (I know people who moved out of that area just to get away from traffic). Being closer to I-35 / 435 / HW69 in OP is going to be better just for the highway access because you're entering the phase of shepherding your kids around to all kinds of activities, and let me tell you, they're spread all over JoCo.

It's interesting that if you look at Kalshi prediction market betting on the 4 KS House districts, they're all considered locked by one candidate except for this race, where Schmidt is leading 80%/20% in betting.
A 19-point deficit (57% to 38%) from last election is a pretty big structural gap to make up for any Dem candidate, and the 2020 redistricting by the legislature was focused on making Sharice's district more competitive for Republicans, maybe at the expense of District 2 a little - but still have GOP lock on 3 of 4 districts.

I think the answer here largely depends on your income and what type of housing you have. JoCo housing near state line is considerably more expensive than KCMO housing (let alone Grandview) along state line, mostly for the Kansas Schools and people want to live near Prairie Village or Leawood instead of Waldo or further south on the KCMO side.
If you're a younger person and/or lower income, and looking more for value, and don't care about schools, I would look at the MO side near 435 around State Line / Wornall / Holmes for access to the interstate and shopping. The Grandview Triangle area is a nightmare and I wouldn't want to be driving through that all the time. If you're higher income and care about living in a so-called 'better' more upscale suburb, you might look at more like downtown Overland Park area, which I like a lot.

During the dot com boom era circa 2000, at the time platforms like eBay were ramping up, the idea of bartering/swap sites seemed like a good idea and a number of them were tried but failed primarily because people really like to buy and sell things for money instead of bartering. It looks like there are still some bartering websites around today.
Bartering adds an extra layer of work and coordination in executing a service swap, and it's also hard to come up with a barter for your specific service that is exactly equal to what is being offered by the other party. If you're an electrician, would you offer $300 worth of electrical work to someone who is offering $150 in plumbing work for you? All that is hard to coordinate on a website when exchanging money as an alternative is just way easier.

OP, it would help if you could explain what specific areas you're considering living in. Comparing Leawood to Grandview isn't the same as comparing Lee's Summit to OP/Olathe.
The reason most people give isn't about taxes - it's more about quality of schools, housing/appreciation, amenities, etc. The state income tax difference between KS and MO is a couple hundred a year more in KS for the typical person, so not a game changer. Sales tax differences aren't significantly different either.

This is a great point. I already voted to not retain any judges Brownback appointed; however, in hindsight, that may not have been a good strategy if Masterson wins (which it seems like he's headed there). I don't think it's probably going to matter, though - almost nobody looks at who appointed each judge and tries to single them out to retain or not (except maybe KS Supreme Court).

It seems like a great metaphor explaining climate change.
