Most of modern issues in the UK can be traced back to policies and laws instituted during her tenure as prime minister from 1979 to 1990. To provide context for why she start so much privatisation, the UK was considered the "Sick man of Europe" in that most of the public companies had been underinvested in for decades resulting in deep issues that would require a fair bit of money to fix. The UK was suffering for a stagnant economy at the time which had inflation issues.

The most notable issues are surrounding the privatisation of major public utilities, such as gas, steel, electricity, water, transport, and telecom.

For the utilities companies:

- British Gas who controlled gas extraction domestically and overseas. Privatised in 1986

- British Telecom who provided and controlled all communication infrastructure across the UK. Privatised in 1984.

- Cable and Wireless who provided international communication services through undersea cables. They were fully privatised in 1985.

- All the water and sewerage companies which totaled to 10 companies divided up to areas of the UK, such as South Water, Thames Water, Trent Water, etc. Privatised in 1989.

- All the regional electricity distribution companies which totaled to 12 divided across the UK like water. None of the original companies still exist, but through mergers they became National Grid, UK Power Networks, and Northern Powergrid. Privatised in 1990.

For the manufacturing companies:

- The defence arm of Rolls Royce was owned by the government after 1971 and privatised in 1987. They manufactured aircraft engines and power systems.

- British Aerospace who manufactured aircraft, missiles, and other defence equipment. Fully privatised in 1985.

- British Steel extracted and processed steel in usable products for other industries.

- British Petroleum, now known as BP, who controlled oil extraction with a few other companies. They were only 51% owned by the UK due to it being a national interest in the outbreak of WW1. They were fully privatised in 1987.

- British National Oil Corporation had a fair control over Oil extraction and processing in the UK. The drilling and exploration arm was split off into Britoil and the rest was dissolved. 51% of Britoil was privatised in 1982 and the whole thing was bought by BP in 1988, a year after their privatisation.

- Multiple car brands who had gone bankrupt and were purchased by the government. The notable ones are Jaguar, Rover Group, Leyland Bus, and Unipart. They were privatised in the mid to late 80s.

- Amersham Internatioal who manufactured radioactive medical and defence equipment. They were privatised in 1982.

For transport companies:

- British Airways who provided international and domestic flights. They were privatised in 1987.

- National Express who provided long distance bus services between cities. They were privatised in 1988.

- British Airports Authority who controlled major airports across the UK (Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, etc). They were privatised in 1987.

- Associated British Ports who controlled 21 ports across the UK and were privatised in 1983.

- National Freight Corporation who did haulage and logistics across the UK. Privatised in 1982.

People tend to attribute rail and coal privatisation to her, but those were done by successor, John Majors.

There is also the Right to Buy act, which was good on paper in that it allowed tenants of council houses (houses owned by the local council) to be bought at a heavily discounted rate without permission from the local council, but the negative was that it was hard for the councils to build new council houses with that money which is directly attributed to the current affordable housing crisis. Nationalised industries gave the public a lot benefits, namely, control over how they ran, control on prices, and a fairly standard level of maintenance.

There is also the stuff from before she was prime minister such as the changes to school meals. Children from the ages of 7 to 11 were entitled to free milk with their food at school and this was stopped completely by her. It earned her the nickname "Thatcher, Thatcher, Milk Snatcher". When she became PM, she abolished the strict nutritional standards which ensured kids were getting varied and full diets. After she changed it, local councils could serve any food they saw fit. In 1988, she forced local councils to put up contracts for making the meals so private companies could do them instead. In the end, private companies could serve anything they wanted as long as the council was happy to the children. Nutritional standards were reintroduced by Tony Blair in the mid 2000s after Jamie Oliver (a famous chef) highlighted how bad it was. Source

On top of that, there were industries, such as coal, that she shut down in a short period because they were unprofitable resulting in mass unemployment. When she came into office in 1979, unemployment was at about 5.3% whereas during the mid 80s, it was at about 12.5%. She did a heavy push from industrial work to financial and markets which was good in some ways, but it meant that mining villages and towns, which had their whole economy built around the mines, and had middle aged men who had only ever worked as miners or industrial workers, suddenly had no work and no transferable skills.

She didn't push for Christianity like Regan, but she did push hate towards homosexuals in her Section 28 amendment which stated that schools could not portray homosexuality as normal or educate anyone about it in any way. It was very much the strategy of pushing it under the rug and hoping it goes away.

Overall, it isnt fully agreed if she was good or bad. Her supporters see her as someone who pulled the country out of economic stagnation, made it more modern, and cut away rot, whereas her critics see as her someone who put in changes that made education worse, made the economy significantly less self-sufficient, and laid the groundwork for most modern issues.

It really depends on how they do it. Magneto (I'm not familiar enough with Emma Frost) is a very grey character who is trying to protect mutants based on his past as a jew in the holocaust. If they make his character absolutely evil, then they have fucked up his character and he cant be redeemed.

deadlygaming11

Yeah, but if we go down that route, then we are thinking about hitler was a cute little kid...

deadlygaming11

Ah yes, the classic redditor take of "Its impossible that she could have done it for herself so she must be cheating". Get a life, mate

deadlygaming11

My guess is that they are talking about dating apps and the easy choices for some people so they dont settle down as easily, but thats not really the whole internet

deadlygaming11

It does apply for everything, but the chance of wrong information is a lot higher the further away you go from the primary sources.

  1. Primary sources are studies, research, surveys, etc. They are direct information and the only risk of them being wrong is through poor methodology.

  2. Secondary sources are writing or words from someone who read the primary sources and then wrote it again in another place. The main issue with them is that people can make assumptions, misrepresent, or make mistakes.

  3. Tertiary sources are the exact same as before but are quoting secondary sources so the mistakes can be amplified by a lot and can stray quite far from the original primary sources.

deadlygaming11

No it isnt. This is a thing which was created by reddit later on.

Thanks

You are really getting into incel territory with these comments. You cant generalise all women based on a few experiences. Also, you dont automatically get support when attacking the other gender in a sub with mainly men. Go outside, kid.

deadlygaming11

Yep. Some riders are twats who go too fast in unsuitable conditions, but most don't and all it requires is one driver to not pay attention and suddenly they have killed someone. There was a guy near me recently who was on an A road and a car decided to pull out whilst he was going 70 (the speed limit and the road is fine for that speed) which caused him to fly over the handlebars and get killed. Bikes aren't like cars so a crash can cause serious injury, even with good gear.

deadlygaming11

That will likely come under unforseen accidents and will also not be covered.

deadlygaming11

Yep. My old boss once ran a roma wedding and he hated it. He said that it was just drugs, alcohol, aggressive behaviour, and damage or destruction of their property. Its hard to like a group when their whole rep is being hostile to everyone.

deadlygaming11

At least in the UK, its because the group tends to be rather antisocial to the world around them. When I was in college, over the span of a year, there were 3 cases of them going in a public car park, staying for a few weeks, then leaving as soon as a court order came through and leaving all their rubbish everywhere. When I was in secondary, it happened on the local rugby pitch about 4 times over 5ish years and everytime they left their rubbish and ruined the ground. Not to mention the fly tipping which is linked to them.

They also almost always do cash in hand work so pay no taxes but still make use of the system and not to mention that petty crime tends to increase in the areas they appear.

Its also not really racism and more culturalism. People dont hate them for being whatever race they are, but hate their travelling culture and the negatives they consistently bring. The Irish travelling community are all white and Irish yet they also get the same rep because their culture is similar to the roma.

deadlygaming11

I think the main issue is that the shot is slow so he has to be close, but the issue is that hes just a regular xeno so cant survive a proper hit. He's a glass cannon basically

deadlygaming11

Yep. The world doesnt understand autism as all media about it portrays it as either a superpower with a few quirks or completely unable to function. In actuality, most autistics have a good few issues and dont have any sort of special ability and are usually screwed in social settings.

deadlygaming11

This is also the reason that cards are replaced so often in casinos because they dont want people marking cards and cheating

deadlygaming11

Yeah, and if you really to want to that, then you approach it in a calm way saying that could they open the relationship in those two months. Even then, its weird. You can just pleasure yourself in those 4 months and do the weird phone sex stuff.

deadlygaming11

Whore Moose

deadlygaming11

If you really want to go down that route, then the answer is simply that the liberals would hesitate and MAGA would immediately press the button.

deadlygaming11

No, that's not possible. All women are strange celibate creatures

deadlygaming11

This seems massively off-topic. This is a legal sub, not an opinions sub.

deadlygaming11

So you definitely dont know what socialism is. Good job. Socialism is a left wing thing, it cannot be right wing or else it isnt socialism

deadlygaming11

There's nothing wrong about this at all
