Yeah. The first gen, the Ranger/Explorer platform one that we have, never came with a v8 unfortunately. The second gen with v8 is like 4800 lbs lool. Curb weight not gross

I’m sitting in the drivers seat of a 4.0 explorer (parked of course) typing this now lol. It’s been such a great truck for us. It’s a first gen 4x4 sport Trac, the heaviest on the platform at 4400 lbs. always wondered what this engine would feel like in a 2900 lb Ranger. I bet it was peppy!!

I wish my 4.0 made 250! No, 235~ vs 285. Plus the v8 has more consistent torque across the rev range, much more immediate in the low end. I’m telling you, drive both, I have, you can absolutely feel the difference.
SOHC was introduced because the OHV 4.0 really was kind of sluggish in the explorer, they wanted a good offering for the v6 as it was by far the most common engine

Well if people are trying to be found they’re not usually running away lol

I have such a love for these vehicles. I’ve been on the lookout for a clean 5.0 v8 Eddie Bauer. I’ve loved them since I was a kid I’ve always wanted one. They just look so damn cool
dedzip
One of the best sounding v8s ever
dedzip
What’s funny is there’s a slightly bigger version of the llv called the ford utilimaster FFV that’s based on this explorer chassis lol

I know someone who got 700k out of a 5.0 explorer without any serious engine work. These things are ridiculously good cars
dedzip
Loooool
dedzip
Made same horsepower*. It had like 50 more pound ft of torque you can really feel the difference driving them. It easily outpulls the v6 on the highway and was an upgrade for sure.
Not to mention reliability. Though the 5r55e + v6 is good when well taken care of, the 4r70w + 302 is unkillable

What are those tires lmfao

man for road snow I’d actually much rather have an AWD v8 with limited slips than a true 4x4. Because theres plenty of times I’m not sure if it’s really wet enough to use 4x4, but there’s an occasional ice patch waiting to get ya. AWD you don’t gotta worry about it and it’s a really powerful viscous system in the 2nd gen. But for true off roading 4x4 with limited slips is superior. Really just a matter of opinion and preference

That’s crazy awesome man

That’s awesome man! I knew someone that got like 700k out of a 5.0 explorer without any serious engine work. It’s crazy how slept on they are

To disable the Buckle to Drive (seatbelt-to-shift) feature in General Motors and similar modern vehicles (like Cadillac or GM platforms), you can turn it off directly through the infotainment touch screen.
Start your vehicle and let the infotainment system boot up.
Go to the Settings menu on your touch screen.
Select the Vehicle tab or option.
Look for Buckle to Drive.
Toggle or switch the Buckle to Drive option to Off.

I was in an argument once with a guy and checked his profile and he was like the #1 commenter on r slash pissdrinkingsluts and I just laughed and realized it was pointless

Not in my experience maybe in the uk

We pay 190/mo for two cars 300/500 full coverage. I don’t think it’s out of the ballpark to suggest 70
dedzip
Love the 5.0. How do you like your explorer
dedzip
Me too man
dedzip
Throw some valvoline r&p in there she’ll be golden in no time
dedzip
You can drive after a single beer lol
dedzip
That’s crazy haha water pump? Trans fluid change? What’s your maintenance schedule?
Yes it is. Wish they had put the 5.0 in the original. I bet they probably considered it at some point to compete with the Dakota.
