Doesn't a hard refresh of a page now reload the favicon?

deusmetallum

That's not really true. The big killer to its market share was simply that Google came along with its own browser, which also ran by default on its phones, meaning that it was a great convergence story for every day users, being pushed by the most techie in the families. A lot of people were quite happy to see Chrome come along because it helped finished off Internet Explorer (Firefox did a lot of the work, but it wasn't enough). It didn't really become a problem until much later when Google's practices got worse and worse, bolstering the need for Firefox again as a true alternative.

deusmetallum

I really don't know what you mean.

Marketing and engineering departments can coexist and work on different things at the same time.

I for one welcome actually Firefox marketing, the lack thereof is why it has been losing market share for so long, and therefore not getting the love from developers and why certain sites don't work correctly on it.

deusmetallum

I don't see what's wrong with it!

Came here for this quote.

I imagine local anticheat probably is the most slimline solution. Once you've installed EAC once, you don't need to install it again. But if you do analysis on the server then you need to make sure that every game has the infrastructure to do that. Offloading locally is *much* cheaper for the developers.

deusmetallum

what?

deusmetallum

I think because it's Chromium based, which people love (because it never breaks due to Google's Monopoly), and because it has gamer vibes. That sort of "I'm better than you because I use Brave even though it's the same as Chrome and Edge" thing

deusmetallum

Surely this depends on the font, no? I just tried it on mine, and I needed to renew my passport so my eyes could travel between the letters.

deusmetallum

Oh nice, so you can turn part of a page into a widget. That could be super useful to many people.

deusmetallum

I've had a similar issue, but running netplan seems to fix it.

deusmetallum

Because defaults matter. If a feature is going to useful for 99% of people then it should be on by default. It is better for advanced users to disable something than for novices to have to figure out what they need and turn it on.

deusmetallum

There's a big difference between laziness and no operational overhead to support Firefox. Most likely it is the former, not the latter.

deusmetallum

Oh well, you won't be able to play Fortnite. Was that on your list of things to do?

deusmetallum

But that's the thing. You only need a signed kernel if you're also using Mesa or signed Nvidia drivers. If you need esoteric drivers then you aren't going to be able to play the game anyway. The person you're advocating for probably doesn't exist. Someone who wants to play Fortnite on Linux, is smart enough to install their own drivers and kernel, but can't figure out they could dual boot into a "locked down" Linux for gaming.

deusmetallum

Oh god, Appimage...
Do we know what games are currently working? I know it says Fortnite is coming, but that's not anything I'm interested in. Does it use proton for windows games at all?

deusmetallum

I'd imagine this is just a problem with your machine. It works perfectly fine for me.

deusmetallum

These are also the people most likely to park them badly

deusmetallum

I think firefox enterprise is the management suite, so I think it can manage ESR.

deusmetallum

I've never liked the idea of the travel potty, but then I realised with so few public toilets these days, they're an absolute necessity

deusmetallum

Without reaching too much about it, seems rather helpful

deusmetallum

Just like the original leave vote then
