I use SMF on OmniOS regularly, so I'm curious, what are you even basing your assertion on?

dlyund

You have to try harder. This is really lame. Maybe take your own advice and don't bother replying. Maybe go read a book instead?

dlyund

No, not at all. Nobody ever died from a baby crying. Parents can certainly be pushed to the limit, but what you're describing just isn't reality. I've held my daughter through the night when she was sick and crying and I did not lose my sanity. I was pretty tired the next day. I was not in pain. And that's with the parental bond yanking at you to do whatever you can to make your child feel better; making it almost impossible to ignore.

You can sit through a flight with a crying child and If you can't then why don't risk your sanity on public transport.

dlyund

Then someone should fix it? And as I've said, that can be done without the complexity and all consuming nature of systemd. Which is assuming that either of us understand the exact role that systemd is playing here; which we don't, as you admitted.

If rcd fixes this then great?!

dlyund

Then you completely missed the point of my initial comment and gave a very poor example.

You do not need the complexity and all encompassing nature of systemd to make ZFS work on an external drive.

I support the goal of systemd -- services absolutely should be a first class concept in the OS -- but there is no need to replace all of the core system utilities in order to do that, as systemd does.

I gave Solaris/illumos SMF as an example of a framework that archived this goal, as encouragement. Because the BSDs should have real service management, not a bunch of shell functions and conversations, that work but only barely, and only while things are going perfectly (you need real service management because even when things work perfectly they rarely stay in that state forever.)

Now don't get me wrong here. I like the simplicity and openness of the various BSD RC systems, but after experiencing and using SMF for a while now I would much rather SMF (and FMA etc.) when it counts... and if it doesn't count because what you're doing doesn't matter then who cares?! (So in reality service management always matters.)

Nobody is taking their baby on a longhall flight without a reason, and iIf there's a need to fly then parents will pony up so this will change nothing.

But you don't have a right to a child free world!

Parents are already raising the next generation at huge personal expense and it is those children will be carring you when you're old and decrepit, so maybe we reverse this insanity and make you pay your fair share for that "inconvenience" :-P.

dlyund

Twins?!

dlyund

Sounds nice?

dlyund

Try a better comeback midwit

A child crying is not painful to you. A child crying, without any of the assumptions and accusations people are making about the quality of the parents, is natural. That doesn't make it fun but to pretend that it is always within the control and gift of the parents shows a fundamental ignorance of what it's like raising children.

Short of knocking the little souls out, sometimes there is nothing that you can do to console them. And I would hope that people would have more issue with a parent abusing their child than a child doing that children often do, through no fault of their own. But given all the calls in the comments to shout at the child to shut the fuck up, duck taped it, put it in a cage, throw it off the plane mid flight, etc. my impression is that people's idea of "discipline" here means to apply excessive force to the child until the desired goal has been met. That's horrible!

dlyund

I'm not sure how this relates to what I wrote but okay

dlyund

We'll wherever she is in sure she's proud of what you became \s

dlyund

Yeah, except we know that least the 29 hour flight part of this story is an outright lie, since as many people have pointed out there is no such single flight. But even if we ignore that lie it is highly unlikely that a single child could scream the entire time. Whine; make noisy between naps, perhaps, but I've never seen a kid scream longer than 4 hours without burning themselves out. Even if it did happen it's more of a tragedy for the child than it is for anyone else. That's some serious trauma.

dlyund

I do wish that your parents had done something about their shitty kid before it turned into such a shitty adult 🙄

dlyund

As soon as they need a seat they're paying for it...

dlyund

It's a wonder you weren't told to shut the fuck up then duck taped under a glass dome and thrown in with the dogs by some of these self-proclaimed superior human beings...

dlyund

I shudder to imagine what that would look like given some of the deranged comments I've seen... The poor little soul would end up duck taped under a glass cage and thrown out of the plane, by these self-proclaimed superior human beings.

dlyund

Shut the fuck up, you big baby!

dlyund

And you're free to remove yourselves from the gene pool

dlyund

The thing about these adult only flights is that they will be full of entitled babies.

dlyund

You can really tell the parents from the incels from these comments ;-).

dlyund

It got me going ;-). There's just something about adults who hate children that is just "cringe".

dlyund

Poor you

dlyund

;-) I hope you have kids one day......

dlyund

If only it worked that way. Short of beating them unconscious there are just some moments when children are inconsolable. Trust me, we don't want to hear it any more than you do and we hear for more than you could every imagine. But we understand (or learn quickly) that they're just children. Show some empathy. You're an adult. Act lik one.
