proxies should absolutely be a step you take before spending thousands of dollars. even the beefiest machine in the world will benefit from proxies despite what youtubers say.

dmizz

Don’t upgrade till you’re unhappy is my rule. If you’re gonna upgrade anything now I’d go 64GB+ RAM. Also make sure you’re using proxies regardless.

dmizz

Yes

I’m in the USA but that’s like £100/day… can’t live on that here for sure. This is a TOP trailer house??

dmizz

Look, I never want to crush anyone’s dreams, but the entire industry went from being able to support an entire swath of middle class workers to being a desolate wasteland in just a few years. Your parents are right. Go engineering. Shoot passion projects or write on the side. Sorry.

Unless you’re independently wealthy! lol

dmizz

Ya any word on that?

Tuna melt

People get busy and distracted. Always follow up (briefly!) and never feel bad about it.

dmizz

100%

dmizz

Such an impossible question but a few that come to mind:

Parasite
Arrival
Fury Road
Kill Bill

I would def not use subs to separate scenes. Headache. Use them only when you have to for VFX or something.

dmizz

Seriously who doesn’t like titties

dmizz

Used is always better financially. An M4 Pro or M3 Max are amazing still. I would not go sub 64GB RAM.

dmizz

Make every recipe 2-4x. Freeze the extras.

dmizz

somehow i almost skipped trash cans entirely

I work in scripted TV and this is what is 100% of the time supplied:

- Mac Studio (you’d be shocked how long we were still on the OLD cheese grater Mac Pros)
- Mac keyboard
- the shittiest mouse you’ve ever seen
- cheap monitors
- low mid range studio monitor speakers
- standing desk (crucial)
- Herman miller chair from WW2
- all in a random office with barely functional AC

Two ovens. If not possible, large toaster oven.

dmizz

Yup. People are all about Al Weiss but I thought it seemed way too cheapo. Roger Stuart is great and still quite affordable.

dmizz

my format list wouldn't help you at all. you need to request it from the specific vendors that do the signage. fwiw they were all h264, with varying FPS and resolution.

dmizz

I’ve done it once. I got about 4 aspect ratios and resolutions. Yes there was absolutely a format list. Nothing too complicated.

Idk anything about nutrient absorption. I also just stopped caffeine about 3 days ago.

dmizz

buy cheap ones and replace every few years

select in/out on the track you want. invert selection. that will hilight the filler between archival tracks. drag that filler up to the TC track and it will remove it except where there is archival. If you need, add a second TC effect above it for runtime of the entire seq etc.
