So now it's: If the empire persists, then the humanity falls into dark ages, and this is what psychohistory predicts, while the original story serves as an initial coverup. I might be OK with that.

The plan calls for the UAE-funded solar farm to provide energy mainly to Israel, which will build a desalination plant on its Mediterranean coast to provide water to Jordan.
It's a water-for-electricity deal. Makes perfect sense, since Jordan is an almost landlocked country with scarce fresh water resources, but with lots of free space for solar.

So theoretically Starlink will be able to provide ping times between antipodes which are about a quarter of those via geostationary satellites, and around 1.5 times better than via fiber-optic cables. Nice.

Can they make a crypto currency which requires proof of quantum work?
dnlgl
True, but he was in fact very worried about Gaal not being where she was supposed to be, up to shutting everything down for a while. And there's nothing he could do at that point, as the ship couldn't jump. But yes, this is a potential hole in the story.
dnlgl
That can be explained by null field being specifically designed to not affect anyone having Gaal's genes.

Ctrl-F cyberpunk, upvote.

Knowledge of psychohistory within Foundation can thwart the plan, this is true, but is not the point. The decision to establish the Foundation in itself is not inevitable and many things could go wrong in the process, some with fatal consequences to the endeavour. And not only that. The predictions regarding the Foundation itself are much less precise, because of its relatively small population. The uncertainties Gaal talked about are absolutely in line with what happens in the books.
dnlgl
Empire's fall, as predicted by psychohistory, is inevitable, but Foundation's success in shortening the dark ages - is not. It can pivot on the actions of an individual.

There are things in this show which seem very Hollywood-ish, but as I said, if you focus on them, you'll miss the better layers.

Yes, this is probably how Synnax came to reject science and to embrace religion. Rejecting science and embracing religion is also how the empire is probably going to disintegrate.
dnlgl
And another parallel, for those who complain about the flashback's length: Gaal inadvertently causes execution of the local scientist/heretic, just as she inadvertently causes Raych's self sacrifice and execution.
dnlgl
The long Gaal flashback to her time on Synnax can of course be seen as a cheesy attempt at a reference to our climate change problem with rising seas, but I think that it is mainly an allegory to the impending and unavoidable (past event horizon) doom of the whole empire, where the scientists predicting the doom are persecuted and sent away, be it Gaal from Synnax or Seldon from Trantor.
dnlgl
I think that your theory is correct, given that in the show the murder scene is directly preceded by the "You always choose this" dialogue between Cleon and Demerzel, as a foreshadowing hint.
dnlgl
Do they want Streisand effect? Cause that's how they get Streisand effect...
dnlgl
Correction, everyone over 60 here is eligible for the booster, not only immunocompromised.

I wonder what the trajectory will look like for the heat shield testing... Will they make Starship enter the atmosphere at the same angle as if it was de-orbiting? And it has to land at the same place, so will this be a loop outside of atmosphere? They will need vacuum Raptors for that...

Gil Kalai was my discrete math 101 teacher twenty years ago. Easily one of my favourite teachers, I hope he takes this lightly.

And what is a reason to die?
dnlgl
He was planning to perform this theatric play 4 years ago, but then an unexpected win of US presidency forced him to postpone it.

No need for B2, Taiwan has Yun Feng for that. And, depending on the quality of Taiwan's intelligence, this might be a preemptive strike.

Well, if the wealth refuses to trickle down, let's see how it trickles up.

I was 30 and this scene traumatized me.
"Me too!"
