I would point out that masters theses are signed off by committee, if there are "significant publications" that are missing one would hope that at least one of the committee members would catch that before it gets submitted in its final form.

Interesting. I think I share your skepticism, and also I find it a little odd to provide an anonymized version of one's own masters thesis when the original unredacted version is already publicly available. But maybe I just don't understand the youtuber kids these days.

dom

/r/SampleSize would be more appropriate for this.

Ink Black Heart rereads: the more columns those in-game chats have the more likely I am to "skim" or skip them completely. I suffered through them enough the first time, thank you very much.

IIRC several years ago they were encouraging people with the old Translink cards to swap it for a new Clipper card. You could check with r/bayareaclippercard to see if customer service can swap your card (and transfer any balance if applicable) or if you need to just get a new one.

Thank you! I'm getting comments like "you need a hearing test" or "you can't be American [if you can't immediately understand an Australian doing a bad American accent]" lol so I'm glad I'm not the only one.

historical!

I never noticed this before but Apple Maps actually has the little left turn box on the map if you zoom in far enough:

I can help mod if necessary. I am moderator for another subreddit. Also am a Cantonese speaker and a linguist. Curious if these comments are reviewed by a human or if there's a robot that runs through these and then assigns mods somehow.

He's actually nicer in the show than he is in the books, if that makes you feel better.

dom

Yeah that was weird too, especially when the show made a point of having Taverner correct Whelan for saying "gas station" (instead of petrol) in an earlier season.

dom

Well I have to do it for the Dogs with the heavier (Northern?) accents sometimes but not in this episode.

dom

I think you can get away with buggy text-to-speech if you're playing a computer simulation of a human, not so much when you're playing an actual human

Harmonics are multiples of the fundamental frequency (of your vocal folds).

Formants (F1, F2, F3, etc.) are basically determined by the shape of your vocal tract, and independent of F0.

The section "Reduction of /kn/" in this article

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phonological\_history\_of\_English\_consonant\_clusters

cites Jespersen 1954 on when the cluster started to go away (apparently 17th century).

This is why when Juliet wakes up from her coma it makes no sense that the reaction is "eww gross" and not "HELLO!!"

dom

It's seon4 純 with tone 4.

Yes easiest is to just tap a visa/mastercard!

To answer your first question: AFAIK it will attempt to charge your express transit card and fail with no balance. It shouldn't attempt a second transaction with your credit card (please correct me if I am wrong).

To answer your second question: Make sure you have the Clipper card you want to use enabled under Settings / Wallet / Transit Cards / Express Transit Card.

That said... we're in the middle of a highly delayed and severely bungled transition to "Clipper 2.0". So the way your Clipper card works will depend on whether they've "transitioned" your old card to the new system or not. The chances of this having happened are higher if you previously registered the card to an online clipper account. If your card has not transitioned, you will not be able to load the $5.70 muni day pass onto that clipper card online; the muni machines in the stations don't accept credit cards anymore; and I forget if the BART machines (which do accept card payments) also sell muni passes or that particular pass.

However pro tip: you can still get the 5.70 day pass using the MuniMobile app, or by paying cash to a bus driver while boarding on the street.

His accent is so slow and cringe. Big fail last episode when he said "loyaldy". It's like someone told him "Americans change their t's to d's" and he's like "ok, this sounds American to me!"

That's an interesting observation, but I disagree with your syntactic analysis. The construction (Num.) coeng4 bo1 is exactly numeral-classifier-noun, like every other noun phrase. Classifiers go with nouns, not verbs. Plus your example of coeng4 does not have to occur with transitive verbs like tai2 'watch', you can use it with existentials

gam1maan1 jau5 loeng5 coeng4 bo1 "There's two games (of sportsball) tonight"

or even as a subject

saam1 coeng4 bo1 taai3 do1 gwaa3 "Three games is too much (I'd say)"

And of course bo1 here refers to a game (of sportsball), not the literal ball (which would take the classifier go3, unless there's some more specific classifier I'm forgetting lol).
