Yeah, that was dumb. I probably should have led with that for the Utah connection post rule 🙃.

dudebomb

I don't think it's necessarily wrong, but it's very much a choice that still affects those who don't vote.

Credit to Sharon McMahon on Instagram. Solid follow if you like history and politics.

Highly recommend checking out https://www.vote411.org/ to get details on candidates and issues on your ballot.

dudebomb

And yet someone will get voted in anyway...

Lemme put it this way: Not voting when you don't like either party/candidate is like your dentist telling you that you either need a root canal or a tooth pulled. Both suck, but you need do at least one of them. But instead of choosing yourself, you let some rando you've never met choose for you.

So while you're choosing not to vote, by not voting you're still making a choice.

This is one of the most consequential elections in our nation's history as we're teetering on the brink of full-on fascism. This administration has all but come out and said "we're totally going to interfere with the election". The thought is, the earlier you vote, the less likely you'll be messed with by them.

As a new citizen, you're even more likely to be targeted. I would definitely vote early if possible, ideally via drop box or early in-person voting.

dudebomb

Use a drop box then. That's how I usually do it.

dudebomb

I'd want that that nailed down too, which is confusing why you'd give up a constitutional right with it being very much unclear and unsettled.

dudebomb

The disabled and the elderly are often doing good to even get to a mailbox. For everyone else, drop box is the way to go.

I don't know if I'd trust WordCraft quite yet since it's extremely new

Fair, but it's definitely a project to watch!

In the mean time, I think LibreOffice is the best option for most people.

I'll concede to that. I managed to get my 75 year-old in-laws to move from an old Office to LibreOffice. That alone is a testament to far it's come along.

dudebomb

Have you seen WordCraft? This is from the guy that has been vibe-coding open source clones of things like Photoshop. Free and open source. There's clones of other Office apps as well.

The Mac office suite is sufficient for me, but if I were looking to replace Microsoft Office, I'd probably start with these.

edit: and if they're garbage, I'd probably go with OnlyOffice or LibreOffice like the other comments suggest.

dudebomb

Love it.

Shall the Utah Constitution be amended to require that citizen-proposed laws that increase taxes compared to existing law be approved by at least 60% of voters, instead of a simple majority?

That's the whole text. It's not necessarily a lie, but man... for every informed voter, there are several who aren't. I'm really worried that this will go through.

dudebomb

If you want to help out with this, the ACLU is training their own ballot watchers. You need to act quickly though. I think the deadline is like Oct 25.

dudebomb

100% I wouldn't mess around with timing. Nowadays Nov 3rd is less "voting day" and more "the last voting day".

dudebomb

Interesting and VERY telling.

dudebomb

FWIW, Fox 13 news is not the same as cable Fox News.

dudebomb

Me too!

dudebomb

Would be awesome but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

dudebomb

Love it

dudebomb

Hoping to make it to this one!

dudebomb

Not in Utah? We already have plenty.

dudebomb

Well that sucks. I've been using that tagline for ages. Why does the extreme right have to take funny/patriotic things and make them horrific ☹️.

dudebomb

Not a fan of either but for this, they earn my salute.

dudebomb

Because this isn't remotely a moral issue, they won't make a statement on this.
