Beautiful article. It’s nice to see media acknowledging that people experiencing homelessness are, in fact, people.

My experience has been exclusively big companies until SLC. Now I'm working for a private software company that's about 15 years old, still pretty small.
There's tons of startups and small companies in the Salt Lake area. I have no idea what pay looks like there, I imagine it has a wide range. But there's no shortage of positions if you are looking for that type of work style.

If your resume is strong, you can pretty easily land a good paying job at one of the few F500 companies with a presence here, or at one of the well paying smaller companies. THIS is why I say stay remote. If you have a strong resume, you can do whatever you want. My experience is that having big companies or non-Utah companies on your resume get you a lot more attention when job-hunting. So if your resume/experience is average or below-average, you can either take your time looking for one of the good Utah jobs. If it's above average - you can take a new job whenever you want, and your current experience will just make that easier whenever you do decide to quit.
Ultimately, I think there's plenty of great tech jobs in SLC, and many of them pay well.
I had personal circumstances that forced a move from Dallas, TX to SLC last fall. In Dallas I was working at a Fortune 500 company, 8yrs experience, Sr Software Dev - Salary around $155k. I got a really great offer in SLC at a Non-F500 for $150k salary, comparable benefits/bonus, etc.
So my opinion is that there are good jobs with good pay rates in SLC, but I will admit they are harder to find than other markets, so you have to be competitive.

Option B, stay remote, IMO. I’ll respond to this comment with more details.

I appreciate you being a good sport among all the downvotes! 😅 You’re not wrong, Hunger Games is a clear influence. I used to pitch the series as “Ender’s Game meets Hunger Games meets Game of Thrones”

I mean yeah, you have to remember that book one came out in 2014, pretty much the peak of Hunger Games popularity. It was Brown’s first novel so he probably had to play that piece up to get publishers on board.
But that said, ‘Hunger Games Fanfic’ is a crazy take. In that case, Hunger Games is just a Battle Royale fanfic. And Battle Royale is just an Ender’s Game fanfic. And Ender’s Game is just a Wizard of Earthsea fanfic. And Wizard of Earthsea is just …

Murray City Park has a really great set of outdoor equipment. (Just get there before the sun does)

His pardons of SO MANY criminals (found guilty in a court of law!) that donated to his election campaign.
I know Jan 6, ICE, and international relations have all been terrible, but I think his use of presidential power as a get out of jail free card is straight out of the fascist dictator playbook.

I checked it out from my local library and assumed they had censored it themselves! Very weird choice to censor those

Don’t defrag an SSD though! (Saying this cause I never heard it until recently)

I remember my little brother thought it was hilarious to yell “grenade” as I was playing, so at random points during a battle I’d have to scramble away before I got blown up.

Fourth Wing is the Colleen Hoover of fantasy, imo. And it shows how that style of writing falls apart in the “high-fantasy” genre.

Agreed. The original is not in English, right? So it probably just comes down to a difference in translator’s grammar ideals, not their political ideals

I’m naming my baby Lysander in July of 2026 unless Pierce gets Red God out in time to stop me.

SUCH a good payoff that made a “Good” series an “Incredible” series for me.

Nearly every book ever written has been consumed by Gemini’s AI model.
The problem is that it isn’t actually “reading” or “understanding” anything it consumes. Everything AI gets, It splits it into chunks, does a bunch of math, and saves in a huge data store. Then when you ask it for the info, it’s just going to do a “best prediction” of the answer based on the chunks it consumed.
It’s the difference between reading the book, vs just doing an old fashioned search of the plot points and stitching together the first paragraph of the top 5 results.

I don’t remember writing this but clearly I did… exact same life over here

Agreed: My father is a pilot and two older brothers are pilots. They buy travelpro exclusively. I’ve had my set for about 4 years and the mechanics are in perfect condition. The wheels are so smooth that I actually had to sprint across the parking lot last week to catch one that rolled away while I was loading up.

Ran back to these comments after seeing that one. Like, I get the photo in some contexts, but… a 36x36 print over the KITCHEN TABLE???

And Tactus half the time lmao

Otherwise the selection is really awesome. Lots of good things there.

You should stock some alum blocks. Most folks will hear about them for the first time from you, and you can keep them at a pretty low price while still having a decent profit margin. It’s a really easy upsell imo.
You think 80% of video games conversation prioritizes representation over quality???
How about this: you know those mega threads on the gaming subreddits that compile reviews when a game releases? If you can find a SINGLE review from any thread this year that mentions “representation”, link it here.
This worldview is a complete delusion, entirely devoid of any factual basis
