I’ve tried on 4 separate occasions to play this style and I just get… so bored by level 15-20. Nothing ever fights back. Nothing hits quite like a shotgun and a bright pink baseball bat if I’m honest

Perfect Blue (1997) sits at 81 minutes.
Wall-E (2008) is 98 minutes
In the Mood for Love (2000) is 99

This is a really interesting first attempt. Speaking from personal experience, this is about what my own crisis of faith felt like.
I’d call attention to your use (or lack thereof) of italics and punctuation. Both can really change the feel and rhythm of a poem. If the absence of punctuation is intentional, great. If not, it’s something that’s worth remaining perceptive of.

Wow this one’s intense. I kept finding myself wondering if you were going a different direction. Is this a “compare thee to a summer’s day” type of moment? Will they reconcile? Will they fall further apart? I think the complexity of emotions over a (relatively) straight forward subject really works here. I think the set-up of the first stanza, particularly “But your smile was relieving;/ a rarity, a gift, an iron lung” is really effective.

Zabriskie Point (1970) really scratched some ambiguous itch in my mind

Rango is the single greatest western of all time

Jennifer’s Body comes to mind. It was advertised as this super sexy for-boys teen slasher that’s kinda just “look at Megan Fox for 90 minutes” rather than the heavily bi-coded camp-fest about female friendships that it is

I reserve it for movies that I think either a.) aren’t a sincere attempt at making a piece of art and/or b.) are so awful as to be actively toxic to the viewer

Probably something ordinary. Extreme poverty is pretty normal in night city, so food insecurity, addiction, random violence. The works

I’ve been playing a chrome compressor build that kinda just lets you be great at everything a little bit. Every ranged weapon, stealth, strong body stats. You kinda get to just pick what kit you need for the gig. Need stealth? Grab a pistol and maybe a sniper. Handful of thugs in a tight spot? Get loud with a shotgun.
Not being stuck in any one kit has been so refreshing

I think the question as is feels a little broad, but if I were to teach a course I’m (being an American) imagining something to do with Alrrican history and politics through film. That said I’m imagining:
- Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1938): An examination of American idealism and the promise of democracy. What is the promise and to whom is it made?
- Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964): Kubrick captures the fear and absurdism of the Cold War like no other. Self explanatory pick.
- Paris, Texas (1984): An exploration of identity and morality in a decaying rural America. Also allows for study of the themes of the western without dedicating huge time to it.
- Do the Right Thing (1989): I don’t know that there’s any film better for the study of racial identity and politics in America. You could watch this movie 100 times and learn something new each time.
Not necessarily in that order, but you get the idea. Honorable mention to There Will Be Blood (2007) that you could put in in place of Paris, Texas

I’ve been watching Kurosawa this week (09/06 marked 28 years since he passed). Today was Sanjuro (1962), in which a nameless ronin helps some young samurai purge their clan of corruption. Fun fact, a technical failure in a prop caused a dramatic spray of blood, creating the blood geyser trope you see in a lot of anime and later action movies. 3.5 stars

In the Mood For Love (2000) is definitely better than Days of Being Wild (1990)

Mine was similar. Gorilla arms, Guts, baseball bat, LMG for a little range. But with a berserk and some good REF there was rarely any need for all that
