I use it pretty much since the beginning since I use NixOS. Why? Because it forces me to put changes I want to persist into my nix Flake instead of doing some statefull configuration. That leads to a more specific, more reprodubcible complete NixOS config overall. Also I like that I can just try out some sodtware and play around with it, but after a reboot my system is completely clean from it again. No leftover config files anywhere. It just keeps the stuff I really care about.

I dont see the point in manually upgrading the stateVersion. Its there for a reason and it works as intended, as you received this very helpful message. I update it only when I re-install a host from scratch.
