okay but most “learn to code” advice is geared to people who aren’t going to school. that is what i am talking about. “learning to code” is a good way to try and get a job without having to go to school for it or having previous work experience. Obviously, it’s not easy but much more doable then trying to be a network engineer or sales without school or work experience.

falkerr

software engineers that care about holding the actual “engineer” title is kind of cringe. first, it doesn’t mean anything. second, most engineering jobs are much much harder and require a lot more knowledge in difficult subjects.

I think a problem is the path to those other jobs is less obvious. For something like a product manager or sales, you kind of just need to gain real work experience. Whereas with coding you can learn on your own completely and start your high paying job being more effective as a new employee despite not having any real work experience. This means companies are more likely to hire someone in coding without work experience.

With coding you can tell someone “learn to code on your own and with enough knowledge and skill you will get a job”. How can someone learn sales enough to demonstrate they know sales and get hired in that field? It’s very hard to do on your own.

that still isn’t gas lighting. ur boyfriend might be an asshole but being an asshole isn’t gaslighting.

it does give “well ahcktually” vibes pointing it out but gaslighting is for a very specific instance of them doing something and telling you they did not to make you go crazy (or not doing it and tell you they did). or intentionally trying to make you lose your sanity by messing with your perception of what is happening or has happened.

ie: telling you that they’ve never been to a restaurant when you remember going to it with them

or in your situation, your boyfriend claiming they do all the cleaning and you don’t do anything when your actually the one who does all the cleaning.

yeah unfortunately fundamentals basically never cause a pump. incentives and hype cause pumps

could try and put the pi on her collar

oh I am just speaking as to saying you don’t want to deal with indian people in your job process in general. Not as to specifically what OP said.

falkerr

Indian English is so divergent from American or British english it may as well be a second language. Indian English has a way of dancing around subjects and requiring listeners to fill in the blanks. It’s not racist to say it’s just their culture and what they are used to but it does not fit what Americans are used too and can cause significant communication barriers which is reasonable to want to avoid.

Saying I don’t want to work with Indian people is pretty outrageous to say and definitely comes across as racist but when you understand that working with Indian people requires someone to be experienced in their form of communication it sort of makes sense. I can’t tell you how many times something got lost in translation because I couldn’t understand what an Indian person was trying to say. This is obviously my flaw but it makes me ineffective at my job which is why I try to avoid it.

so with netflix for example then if everyone has it they raise prices to a point where they know they will lose subscribers but then make more money. then it becomes a game of trying to reclaim those subscribers at the new price. there is always more money to be made either by higher prices or more customers. it can be a constant cycle.

falkerr

nothing cause i wouldn’t sell for a measly $15k.

falkerr

he just called time. that pitcher is a dick tbh. pitch clock for that guy

falkerr

weres the lie tho?

falkerr

Brett baty has not even adjusted to AAA pitchers yet, how is he going to adjust to MLB pitchers as quickly as we need him. Would he be an upgrade over who we currently have as a backup? Yes. But all our home grown guys were mashing and pushing 1+ OPS before coming up. If we brought him up now when he’s just getting used to AAA pitching, currently has a .825 OPS, then he would definitely be rushed.

He can maybe adjust after some time and perform decent but if you think he’s going to get to the majors and instantly mash then you should take another look at what stars do in AAA before coming up.

falkerr

not really worried ab this game. rain delay killed us in an away game and the braves have to face scherzer and degrom this series

yeah i’m saying wsb acknowledges they’re gambling, people in here don’t realize it

falkerr

cause wallstreetbets may be dumb as fuck but they’re usually smart people that have a lot of access to money that are doing it for the fuck of it aka entertainment. basically gambling.

people here are probably broke and doing it to actually get rich and are hoping that 100x promise can take away all their problems.

i bet this guy lost less than 10k which wsb wouldn’t even sniff at

falkerr

Just a reminder for this coming stretch of tough games: the mets have to go .500 and the braves cannot lose a single game in the next 10 games in order for them to catch up to us.

Then the mets have in insanely easy rest of the season. I would be giving up on that hope of getting first place as a braves fan.

falkerr

why did we not try and put a lesser guy in the pen today? we had runs to work with. i get you don’t wanna play w fire and blow it but we need ottavino for tomorrow

falkerr

we used our best guys last night so we can use some of our bottom guys esp w a 5 run lead

falkerr

That’s exactly what Keith is talking about though. It’s not shoddy defense. It’s poor decision making that leads to runs. Guy misses the ball and makes a poor attempt at getting the ball then makes a lackadaisical throw with zero awareness, then the catcher has him beat by a mile and the catcher can’t make the play.

falkerr

wasn’t his son supposed to be creepy like that? i thought he was playing the role he was supposed to

falkerr

100% agree. they havnt worked the count at all against the phillies. maybe it’s the phillies pitching but even w the braves we grinded the fuck out of their pitchers

falkerr

You’re conflating poor with uneducated. There’s a lot of overlap but it’s an important distinction.

If you are trying to fix the problem of people not being able to access banks and you claim it’s a poverty issue then you won’t fix the problem. It’s an education issue.

People should be educated on the options available to them to open a bank account. These days you can easily have no money to your name and still open a bank account, and you can choose a bank with no minimums or overdraft fees. People have to be educated not make more money and it’s not a bank or government problem.

falkerr

i created an online bank account, zero minimums, zero overdraw fees, got my debit card delivered to me, online check deposit. honestly, being poor is not an excuse for not having a bank account.

only barrier is internet access which, if you don’t have access to an internet connected device such as a phone you probably have much bigger problems (you basically need internet to function in modern society from applying to jobs to obtaining an ID to paying taxes). even homeless people have phones.

i would say the reason people don’t have bank accounts is lack of education or distrust in banks. so it’s not poor people but the uneducated which is a large overlap but an important distinction.
