I have a very similar sweater I bought in Chile, with the same pattern and finishing techniques. From the number of sweaters the seller had in her stall at once, I’m gonna say machine knit, hand finished — that or she had a time machine :) it’s my favorite sweater tho so good find! Very cozy.

Hello! Just popping in as someone with misophonia: your husband might want to consider going to a misophonia specialist rather than/in addition to the regular psych. I see a lot of people in the comments recommending earplugs, but when I got diagnosed by a specialist 8 years ago I was told that trying to block out the trigger sound entirely might actually make things worse in the long run, because you can end up training yourself to listen for the sound through the earplugs to check that they’re working. If you’re listening for the sound, you’ll hear it eventually, and the earplugs will stop working, and it’ll be easier for him to get triggered overall. This happened to me before I was diagnosed, and eventually I couldn’t leave the house without panicking.
What I got prescribed, instead of earplugs or headphones, was just 24/7 white noise. The reason for this is that it gives your brain a background noise to listen to instead of listening for the trigger sound. This way I am never in a situation where it’s just silence and triggers; it’s always white noise and triggers, and over time I have learned to be better at listening to the white noise and not the triggers. I wear hearing aids during the day to help with this, which are obviously pretty expensive without insurance depending on what country you live in (hence recommending the specialist diagnosis), but you could try using a fan or a white noise machine at night rather than ear plugs, especially once the external stress has calmed down. That might help keep the misophonia from getting worse, and even improve things. It certainly has for me :)

this is lovely! Congratulations!!

My favorite is Tjorven garn right next to the Majorstuen metro station; they have a lot of Norwegian brands including Oslo Mikrospinneri and the staff have always been really friendly to me. If you like variegated or hand-dyed yarns they basically have nothing but if you want solid colors they basically have everything :)

Sewing, cross stitch, spinning, been eyeing embroidery for a while bc I want to learn how to make my traditional dress. The list of fiber crafts is ever growing. I tend to have big stretches where I feel like sewing or knitting or spinning or what have you, make a bunch of things for a few months, and then start feeling the call of some other craft.

I’ve made mittens before that had a short section of ribbing before a mostly color work cuff (e.g. Skeindeer Knits’s Selbu Mittens), so if you want the extra warmth from ribbing but the look of color work that might be a good option!

Ooh this would be the perfect gift for one of my friends, thanks for sharing! 💕

Hey, @ folks in this thread who feel like you’re constantly irritated by sounds other people don’t even register? Look into misophonia if you haven’t already. I got diagnosed nearly a decade ago and my quality of life has improved so so much ❤️

Do you happen to have a link to the pamphlet? This is gorgeous

Oh, fingerless mitts could work! good idea
feather337
alas, my hair is too short for scrunchies, but that’s adorable! I’ll keep it in mind for if I ever find someone who’d wear it :)
feather337
oh that's INCREDIBLE, great work!!

Alpakka ull is def not superwash and it pills like crazy. I made a cardigan a few months ago and I love it, but it does leave fuzz balls all over my house lol

That’s what’s so baffling about this—I DID check the dye lot. Those sleeves are knitted with the exact same yarn from the exact same batch, and the difference only showed up after washing.
I suppose there’s nothing to do but be confused at this point, but I sure am confused lol

I'm so sorry! This happened to me Thursday night and I had my bag back by Saturday morning, so I hope you have a similar experience. It sucks.

I worked on this telescope! For those asking, this is definitely a sunspot, not a sunflower or the eye of Sauron :)
A sunspot is an area of the sun's surface that is cooler than the area around it. That's why it's dark, it's not a hole. It's just not glowing hot like the plasma surrounding it. Sunspots are also areas where the sun's magnetic field is concentrated. When two sunspots are close together, these concentrated field lines can twist around each other and sometimes touch, releasing a bunch of energy in the process. This released energy is what we see as a solar flare!
The really cool thing about this image, though, isn't the sunspot itself. It's the granulation patterns you can see around the sunspot. This granulation covers the entire solar surface, and is the result of bubbles of hot plasma rising from the interior of the sun–basically, the sun is literally boiling. The amount of resolution that DKIST provides means that we can study these patterns more closely and in more detail than ever before, and try to understand how the sun moves energy throughout its interior.

thanks everyone!
I was thinking of "å frigjøre" which clearly is not the same thing hah. learned a new word now lol

It's not old Norwegian (as in norrønt), it's just dialect. Look up words in Nynorsk if you're curious, that'll be closer than Bokmål. My attempt at a translation:
Plowing without sowing,
freeing without receiving,
sailing without wind,
are three motionless things.
Wisdom
Caveat: I'm not a native speaker (I'm at about C1), and when I speak Norwegian it's very close to Bokmål since I studied in Oslo. I struggled with a lot of these words, so I could be super wrong, but I was waiting for code to run and wanted a challenge, so I thought I'd try :)

I got to the bit where Wit calls himself Hoid in WoK, knew I'd read that name in Mistborn, went and looked it up just to make sure, and my eyes about popped out of my head. "Wait...he wouldn't use the same name twice...no, definitely not...so what does it–WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!!"
Didn't even realize there was more to the Cosmere till I read Secret History.

adding you! katie2516

I love this, so I made it

Definitely bookmarking this for use in my game...my players have come to expect at least one vibrant/fleshed-out tavern everywhere they go, and I'm running out of ideas. :) thanks!
The thing that maybe bothers me the most is the idea that when we’re nice to strangers it’s fake or weird. I’m an American living in Europe, and the number of times per week I wish I could tell a stranger how cool their outfit is but have to stop myself because they’ll think I’m being weird is ridiculous. Just let me compliment your jacket and move on with my day!
