Hey, he is making bubble nests again today lol, we are gonna dose him with pimafix and melafix probably tomorrow. i’ll let you know! I think it was visually a lot freakier than it actually was, he has been fine the whole time.

fisharrow

I just removed it by hand, i only had to grip it with pinchers and he pulled it off easily. Looking into options for treatment of the wound and tank, but at least disgusting thing removed with no issue. it was attached to his abdomen, not gill or anything sensitive. Who knows what’s going on internally so we’re just going to do general treatment and for anchorworms since that seems to fit most closely. sorry i just freaked earlier EW gughhhh

fisharrow

anchor worm im seeing maybe?? im so freaked i might try to pull it off, im reading online and says treatment resistant but not immediately kill it, can be removed by hand? if that’s what it is. potassium permanganate??

fisharrow

god do i fucking rip it out by hand how can he not die

fisharrow

im fucking horrified trying to decide bw pimafix and melafix right now, god im fucking sick. i don’t think it’s moving idk??

fisharrow

They are mainly food for my vigorous baby cricket population, and the squash will go to my dog lol. I hate to see anything be unwell.

fisharrow

I’ll try this, thank you! I don’t have much experience with pests because I just don’t usually get them, milk was helping for a bit but it might have just made it worse in the end or at least not helped.

fisharrow

Since this the puffing has gone down and he has been making bubble nests anyway so I think he is ok. There still is a mark, seems like he lost a scale or something but no idea how. The white tips are normal for his coloration.

Join the dark side, it is very mothy. and spidery. you’ll become part of the organism too with enough spiderwebs :y

interestingly we have no ants whatsoever inside.

I adore your replies, I am surrounded by bugs constantly at my house and I never knew any of this, thank you. It is incredibly informative and fascinating and makes me rethink the greenhouse idea entirely. I had no idea lights bothered them like that. Windows makes sense, I myself don’t like them and keep them open all the time with screens removed. I hate screens and the bugs from my garden would get stuck inside, so i removed them all and now have even more bugs in my house, but they don’t get stuck so much anymore and can travel more freely. I love bugs so win win. I have uncountable number of spiders living everywhere that take care of those that do, it’s a thriving ecosystem heh.

I am rewilding my entire property, I am extremely happy with how many insects and plants I am supporting(birds, frogs toads too), amazing variety of both emerging continually. Tons of dragonflies, moths, hoverflies, true bugs, etc; I want to say lots of bees and butterflies but honestly i have never seen so few. I have worked really hard to get my moth population up, it’s still nothing like years past but i have good variety of small/medium moths. They really need me because it’s a wasteland in all the other yards I see, it hurts.

I need my garden for my own survival too, my philosophy is we are all living together in our little sanctuary, and inside the house isn’t much different than outside to me. I’ve got so many plants inside too and everything is open, so the bugs do what they please and I get to watch the ecosystem and natural processes. It’s beautiful. I really rambled but what I mean is maybe a “moth garden” could just be more like a greenhouse with no windows, more like an open building that is so full of greenery that there are moths living there anyway. That sounds like paradise to me.

edit: Oh i forgot to ask, do you have any sources for your information so i can look into it? It’s really good stuff.

fisharrow

Yeah i think some lanterns would be fine, and i’m thinking more like ambient moonlit night level, since it would be closed from the outside.

fisharrow

Wow, I didn't know larvae could be so complex and beautiful, i will put it back outside. Thank you!

fisharrow

Yeah I think i was overwatering it, it needs less than my other inside plants.

fisharrow

I don’t know tbh I just grabbed it from the ground like most of what I grow.

fisharrow

I prefer to think of it more like archetypes, which gets interesting when you notice how their species symbolically connects to their personality archetypes.

fisharrow

Oh thank you for that correction, I saw lion in his other forms but wasn't sure about bird body. Do you know who the lion is meant to be in these, as well as the lion killing the Bull of Heaven; is it Inanna? I have noticed a tiny curious detail in both Anzu and the lion art, that they sometimes give the lion paw 6 fingers(it's not visible in this relief). I never see anatomical peculiarities like that without a reason, do you know if it's connected to anything symbolic?
