Not always the case. In my company people believe that you HAVE to be an asshole to be a good manager, especially in the upper executive ranks.

I’ve seen so many nice friendly hard working managers get passed over while others who are rude, spiteful, aggressive, antagonistic bullies move up the ranks.

One: the world is full of boring stupid people who think they are better than everyone else. Think of it like a huge painting, and most of it is a drab brown or grey.
