In NYC, for $400, I think it'd be sold within hours. If I was looking to sell it and was not in a hurry, I'd list it for $600 and entertain offers.

Laws very much differ by locality, so this might be a good thing to email to a local bike attorney (or at the very least, tell us your general location)

What shorts are people using? I really don't want to spend the dive gear premium.. is there a common "athletic cargo short with belt" or something that people go for instead? Everything I find is super baggy.

Debian. Fairly unopinionated, not proprietary, adheres well to common Linux configurations, and it's what many many many other distros are based off of. It's not going to be the hand-holdingest distro but it's not hard to install and use. It's one of the OG distros, having been around since 1993

Exactly this. You end up with a shittier framework that nobody knows. You use React and hire an experienced React dev, they have a huge leg up that you wouldn't get with an in-house framework

Right? I kind of feel like this was just a regular underling employee seeing the thread and being like "Oh, easy" make the fix, write a ticket after writing the fix, send it to the boss, and off it goes.

Or maybe an email from a PM to a senior dev or whatever like "is this possible?" and a response that says "already done" and a link to the ticket

I love that type of shit. Used to work for a SaaS and we had an internal team who used the software, so I'd overhear them complaining and write a fix, send over my dev link.. "is this better?" then send it up the chain
