Grew up with the local supermarket selling these at 6 for $1 when on sale. We'd hoard $5 worth and think it was the greatest thing ever. When I'm sick, exhausted, hangry, or just can't be bothered, this just hits things perfectly. It's not perfect, but it's what I need.

The second tasting is usually the more…dramatic one for me.

Oh nice. Bookmarked!

Having eaten at Monterey Park, Sawtelle, and Little Tokyo, I can confirm that Sawtelle is the most disappointing one. I've foolishly eaten there twice now. Once to try it and once more with the hopes that they got better - they did not.

If that happens, I demand everyone to play for us "Do they know it's Christmas?" and send us aid in the form of air conditioners.

Might be tough to sit everyone there, but if everyone doesn't mind walking into the 99 Ranch, they got room there in the food court area!

*ignores the screaming security, cashiers, and food court workers yelling at everyone to get out*

I order pizza after the AP test for Calculus each year as a celebration. Each large pizza feeds about 5 adults. I once made a mistake and used the adult ratio for students. That day, I earned the scowls of teenagers who didn't get their free pizza.

LAUSD also. First year, I'm going over an example with Algebra 2 and I say to the students, "This is a bit tedious, as you keep on repeating the process until you get a zero."

Student: "So you keep on doing the same shit again and again?"

Me: "Yes, do the same shit again and again."

It was 7:42 AM and first period. My brain was obviously not functioning. Only two of the students actually reacted, which made me feel both "safe" and saddened only two reacted.

I had a student say "Mr. I don't know. It goes in one eye and out the other," when talking about what he read.

Then for a check in question, I asked "What is your favorite memory with your favorite teacher?"
Student A: "When me and Mr. Y (me) went on a Ferris Wheel" - call back to last Thursday when I asked if they would rather ride a Ferris Wheel or a Merry-go-round, and with whom.
Student B: "When I gave my favorite teacher tickets to Knotts Berry Farm."
Me: "So am I ever going to get tickets?"
Student B: "I said my favorite mister. You know you aren't."

My favorite call of his is still "There is no foul on the play. The defender was overpowered."

Never ever forget this feeling of bonding and being authentic at the same time. These are precious memories you'll cherish forever.

Damn. I adore how you and your dad can just bounce off each other. Family is not bound by blood, but by connections and how much you care for one another. You and your pops are two awesome cats!

Hotpot with lamb ftw!

Hmmmm....so, who are the refs, the PI call, and the oh wait...Kira's a Bronco??

greenmaillink

That's oddly specifically the first word I thought of too when I saw this post.

The gastritis? No, but I've been more or less able to keep it under control for at least 8 of the months of the year now. More exercise, taking on fewer responsibilities, and letting others do more of the work instead of carrying the load.

The pain? Mostly. With me actually taking control of things I have control over, I kept most of the pain off to the side unless something drastic hit me hard. That still happens, but is much less frequent now.

Well, in the "I really should have seen that coming" category, I once had an example set up for related rates in AP Calculus BC. I said, "Point A is going to move away from this intersection at a high rate of speed while Point B is going to enter the intersection from a perpendicular angle at also a high rate of speed. Let's just use names because I don't want to say A and B. Does anyone have a name for A?"

Student #1 - <Says name of one of the African American students>

Me - "How about Point B?"

Student whose name was said by student #1 - "The Police"

I have never given students choice ever again on this example. NEVER again.

Worst 1st quarter....yet.

Man, I feel the injury gods are working OT this week.

Kefka is one of the craziest, insane, evil, and vile creatures ever. He made sure you absolutely wanted to kill him by the time you finally got to fight him, if not earlier.

I stopped yelling around year 2. I figured that if I yelled, students thought it was normal. So now I just speak in a softer voice and put the important information on the board for students to follow. After the first two times, students get the message usually.

But I am in high school, where students tend to be a bit more attentive (at times...maybe....perhaps....please pay attention T_T)

“I am inevitable”

“And I, am on vacation. Look, can your snap just be delayed by a week. I’m taking Morgan down to Cabo and I don’t have any more PTO I can move around.”

greenmaillink

Uh...."you see, this was state of the art back then, and in our old eyes and brains, we all thought it looked like the right side."

Yeah, it's tough to explain how big of a jump things were when OoT came out back in the day. And I swear, we all thought, "Nothing's ever going to look better than this."

Oh I love the AI voiceovers, the AI generated text that sometimes breaks my brain, the AI directed scripts, and how each scene is acted out. The topic of the meeting that led up to this meeting for us last year: "How to spot AI and responsibly use AI in school."

I had a hard time holding back my frustration, disappointment, and anger at the training with my admins last year.

I dunno if they WANT to make life harder, but that is essentially what it turns into. It's like when I have a problem in general and I get enough help that I now have two new massive problems, both of which have dwarfed the original one in scope and I no longer remember the original problem.

greenmaillink

Same situation here. SBAC scores weren't growing and we were tagged as tier 2, even though we were outscoring our peers.

"You didn't grow enough"

"We still outperformed that school and they're still tier 1?"

"Yup"

"So what can you do to help us out?"

*shrug* "Figure it out"

That is the CliffNotes version of the last two years. Yes, I still call it CliffNotes.

Oh definitely. They were a good group of players that I could point to and say, "They got heart and soul. They're going to make it one day." When Richardson left and joined the Warriors, he helped make that team fun. Miles had such upside but mediocre coaching. Maggette had the skills and talent, but also just needed more coaching. Of that whole group, it was nice to see Odom finally get back to LA and win, albeit with the Lakers.

So much talent has worn that uniform. But so much talent never was in the position to win it all.
