Another suggestion is to see if there's a blacksmith guild local to you. They may have regular meetings open to anyone who wants to learn.

My wife and I use grinders for salt and pepper both. I tend to go lighter on the salt when I cook so sometimes my wife adds salt after she tastes the food. I usually add pepper because I like the taste of fresh ground pepper.
