This is fair, though I get the vibe that they want the security of Apple devices, and they mostly want side loading to be for developers, but like eh I've jailbroken Apple devices so I can deal with it

The quest 3 goes from mid to peak once you learn how to side load apps onto it, which isn't even hard

Literally uses the same stock unmodified ADB (android debugger) that I use to root my pixel phone behind a few toggles to allow third party apps, and then I'm wirelessly casting steamvr from my Linux desktop just like that, no meta software on my pc.

VR in it's current form could never be "mainstream" like Facebook was, but it wouldn't be a huge pivot to completely consume the rest of the enthusiast market if they try to behave a bit more like valve. The headsets already run android and side loading isn't even that hard, and modern quests are extremely common in teaching game development.

For me personally, I'd say rooting is worth it if you're able to install and troubleshoot it and have something to gain from it (sounds like you do)

The risks are like, yeah you're flashing unofficial code straight to the bootloader, there's a chance of messing it up (bootloop), but it's hard to Permanently break the device.

I've heard Samsung's are harder to root than most, but just find the guide for your phone and android version and see if you want to do all that
