Salzman’s research found that 50 percent of computer-science college students don’t enter the tech industry after graduation. Thirty-two percent of the students Salzman surveyed said there weren't enough tech jobs available -- countering any idea of a worker shortage. Fifty-three percent of students said they “found better job opportunities outside of IT occupations." That suggests the relative pay of tech is the real problem.

This part of the article is a misrepresentation of the linked study. Thirty-two percent of the students who didn't enter the tech industry said there weren't enough tech jobs available. This amounts to sixteen percent of the students Salzman surveyed. Likewise, the fifty-three percent figure is also too high by a factor of two.

Edit: Upon closer examination, it looks like only 35.5 percent (rather than 50 percent) of CS students don't enter the tech industry upon graduation, while 64.5 percent do. This is shown in Figure D of Salzmann's paper. The misconception probably came from the statement "U.S. colleges graduate 50 percent more students than are hired into those fields each year", which actually implies that two thirds of CS majors are hired in CS jobs (since the number of students is 50 percent more than 2/3 of the students).

The anandtech review complained about it in the last paragraph of the software section.

For Mike/Trike, you can play this while undying is on the stack. The other player cannot use the combo in response, because they need undying to put triskelion back on the battlefield before continuing the combo.

Factorization is not believed to be NP-hard, because this would imply that NP is contained in BQP. On the other hand, factorization is probably not in P either.

I think this is probably the source. The poll I linked asks whether people approve of it, and does not mention legality.

Let q be a prime power. For each monic irreducible polynomial f over the field with q elements, let N(f)=qdeg f; this is the order of the field F_q[x]/f(x). Then the number of monic irreducible polynomials over F_q with N(f)<x is asymptotically cx/log x for some constant c.

When Sam and Jon were discussing the possibility that Bran was near Craster's keep, Locke came and told Jon that Ser Alliser Thorne wanted to see him. It seems likely that Locke overhead them then.

He isn't Jon's brother. The last name Snow is given to all bastards in the north.

Doubling the number of antennas is much more complicated than it sounds. When there are multiple transmitting antennas, the received signal is a complicated mixture of the various transmitted signals and some random noise. The reciever not only has to remove the noise, but also unjumble the signals. How to do this is a fairly complicated problem, which is a major area of active research. The problem gets much harder as the number of antennas is increased. The wikipedia article on Space-time block codes discusses some approaches to this problem.

A lot of malicious behavor, such as sending an expensive SMS or harvest contact data are possible for any app that asks for permission. However, on a nonrooted device, an app cannot ask for a permission that will allow it to modify the boot partition or change init.rc files, both of which are specifically mentioned in the article. Additionally the report by 360 security states that it runs commands as root. So in this specific case the malware is doing more than abusing the permissions granted at install time.

ichthyic

The behavior described requires root access, but neither the article, nor the original security report describe how root is required. Since a new root exploit would be more remarkable than most of what's described in the article, this leads me to wonder whether the malware simply asks the user for root access. If so, the application in question is likely harmless if the user has not rooted his or her device, or if the user refuses to grant root to this application.

That may be part of it, but the battery life is also surprising in comparison to the G2. It seems to have lower power consumption despite having a 5.9 inch screen instead of 5.2 inches.

The Anandtech review specifically states that it doesn't.

The chip in question is using ARMs Big.Little strategy. In this case, it is less like a typical 8 core CPU and more like a pair of quad-core CPUs that you can switch between. Four of the cores are Cortex A53, which is very good for battery life, but not powerful enough for use in a flagship phone. The other four cores use the Cortex A57 architecture, which is very fast, but a bit power hungry.

The vast majority of the time only the Cortex A53 cores should be active, and the power consumption will be extremely low. On the occasions where the Cortex A53 is not fast enough (for instance when opening an app), the Cortex A57 cores will turn on for a fraction of a second, and you will get a level of performance that can't be offered by a Cortex A53.

If things work out as ARM hopes, then this will give the best of both worlds; you will get both low average power consumption and high performance when it matters. In any case, the decision to go to 8 cores is not just a ploy to increase performance with no regard to battery life.

This isn't any better than using the original key to transmit both messages.

Denote bitwise XOR by +. Let k_1 denote the original key, k_2 denotes the new key, and x denote a message transmitted using the new key. Then an eavesdropper will know k_1+k_2 and k_2+x and hence will know (k_1+k_2)+(k_2+x)=k_1+x. So the eavesdropper may convert messages encrypted with the new key to messages encrypted with the original one, and can then proceed in the same way as if the key had been reused.

Your link shows the G2 and the iPhone 5S performing similarly on offscreen GPU tests, so it doesn't support the claim that Apple uses faster GPUs than their competitors are using at the same time. However the Galaxy S4 is a few months older than the iPhone 5S, and mobile GPUs have almost doubled in performance during that time period, so the iPhone is much more powerful than the S4.

Also the Galaxy S4 is 1080p while the iPhone 5S is 640p. Since the Galaxy S4 has nearly 3 times as many pixels, it's GPU also has to do more work than the iPhone.

I suspect Engadget was wrong about this. When Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 805 they said it was coming in the first half of the year. Also, given that it was already sampling in November, it would be unusual for it to take until late 2014 to appear in a consumer device.

The new dialer is a proprietary Google app, not part of AOSP. It is possible that it isn't available on non-Nexus devices, but I can't check since I don't have a Moto G. If the Moto G doesn't support this feature, flashing the Google dialer addon found here might work; However keep in mind that it is meant for use on AOSP roms, so you should make a backup before trying it on a stock rom.
