I have some relatives with similar experience/situation…at the end they still need to think about expenses and don’t e.g. go on a month long vacation to exotic destinations with their whole family at the drop of a hat & other such things we associate with “rich people”. They can’t afford to not work for long. So they don’t feel “rich”.

The point is that everyone can attend a Gesamtschule and then go on an Abitur track when the time comes. You have to get accepted to a Gymnasium (in Berlin meaning grade average >=2.1).

You can also get an Abitur at a Gesamtschule after 13 years (at least in Berlin). While I’m sure there’s classism still, if a kid wants to and is capable of going to uni there’s usually a way to do so.

If you use chatgpt/claude/etc type LLMs for translation you can give them context - "this is a message to my hausmeister, be friendly and polite, phrase it in a way that will not offend anyone", i find it create quite good results.
