The theme of the whole season was trust, and this one really brought everything to a head.

I thought it was well written with some good twists.

Maybe hard to watch in spots for some people but Trek was always supposed to challenge you, not give you a safe space. In a lot of ways, this episode was more like the Trek that I remember.

Castro is definitely a 'mean girl'. Gabrielle Ruiz even referred to the character that way.

Sh'Reyan is ambitious, with a little of that Andorian arrogant edge we've become accustomed to seeing from their species.

Barnes is nice but feels like a bit of a ditz at times.

Just my own impressions of them over 5 seasons. They're all on a Cali-class ship for a reason, remember.

You're attacking me and I'm agreeing with you?

Your social skills are terrible. Calling people names when they're trying to be nice to you isn't a good way to make friends. You need to grow up.

ihphobby

You're welcome. 😂

You didn't say it here, but it's been said elsewhere a lot. And it inspires a lot of 'why do they talk like we do today' kind of commenting. Just sayin'.

And maybe his cane really is some kind of Swiss Army knife of emergency gadgets that he uses. Might have been fun to see it in action.

ihphobby

The use of the cane is more to play to the eccentric old man stereotype that we have now. It's done well enough that most people don't notice it. We just see that, the solitary living, the odd hobby and even the Werther's Originals he offers the kids.

It makes me laugh when some people try to say that Star Trek is about a perfect future utopia. It isn't, and that wasn't the original purpose. It's about us right now, a mirror of our society and values. If it were really about the future, we wouldn't recognize or relate to most of it to enjoy it and laugh at it, as the future will be very different. So using something like Denny with a cane or a human using glasses is to play to our values, not to make us speculate about the future.

Makes me think these two are definitely having threesomes with the Queen now and then. Taking 'personal guards' to another level.

Why not, if Hysperia is as horny as we're led to believe.

ihphobby

They say other characters are planned, but Lower Decks fanartists almost never do the senior crew. They're mostly younger people that do the young characters they identify with.

I'd say much higher than Shaw, among the legends, and her story isn't finished by a long shot. She did quite a bit to show she deserved her place on the wall of legends. If only we had a Starbase 80 series.......🙂

ihphobby

Initially, yes. She got over that by the end of the show. Her character arc is pure Star Trek: growth, redemption, and becoming a better person.

ihphobby

Part of the reason was the writers didn't want to sexualize her like previous Orion appearances and portrayals.

And Tendi herself probably saw it as a visible indicator of her leaving her previous life behind.

ihphobby

Who says she even still exists by that time?

ihphobby

And that's strange, because there were kids on the Rubidoux, which was Cali-class.

Wonder if they had Captain Dayton day?
