Thanks. As much as I can make it frequent, I take her out to lunches, dinners.. thrifting, bookstores. she's pretty busy with her extracurriculars.

late to the game, but in scouring the web for different recipes and trying different ones, this is has got to be the closest base recipe (if not indistinguishable) for the Starbucks bites.

Oh mann, I love them. It reminds me of one of my fav classic hardcore songs that samples them- Intellectual Killer- Ron d Core

infiniteMe

yeahhh? Or their understanding of a very rich and diverse musical genre and style is severely limited. PLus keeping with the tradition of some goths being really really into gatekeeping

infiniteMe

I wouldn't either. There does seem to be a strong tie between horror in general and goth culture, however. In some ways, I'd say my own journey from rap/hip hop to goth was listening to less mainstream rappers including Gangsta Nip (https://youtu.be/BSjzw05kZMc?si=OvcTUtnZGZQ5pY7M).

I get the sense that as people of color become more part of the gothic subculture we will find elements of rap and hip-hop to be more prevalent with some artists. There are counter-culture roots in both musical traditions and subcultures; perhaps it's the very early mass appeal of hip-hop that we forget this aspect of it.

If I were to gate-keep I'd say it's more like mumble rap and themes of decadence and misogyny that do not fit, haha.

I may out myself here.. but I did use AI in my last review. Why? I read it and the paper sucked! It was a clear reject but I still needed to point out why it was crappy in detail. I ended up using it to draft up key criticisms and identify relevant articles (which I knew a few and checked those I didn't). I went through and edited it to fit my perspective too. Maybe it was ethically problematic, but it's hard to motivate oneself when presented with junk.

he was a teenager at the time of its writing too! which makes his songwriting and artistry a lot more impressive imo.

elder POC goth here, and this was my exact read too. Even in my youth when I became a fan of Rozz, never did I get the sense that he was racist or antisemite. The counter-culture aspect of the genre, especially as I felt it in the early days, led me to associate it with a mocking a rejection of a culture and humanity that was capable of atrocities. Using the iconography felt more like an artist attempting to show the dark side of humanity that seems to easily be brushed aside. It didnt feel like a cheap shock value stunt.

infiniteMe

are your 2 exams in person then? I would love that, but with students across the country that is a big ask, even if just a single class

infiniteMe

for me, it's not that I dislike it, but it doesn't have the side of JID's artistry that resonates with me. The lyrical wordplay that seamlessly falls into a melody and switches up before you get bored with it

infiniteMe

Auden—a nod to the poet W.H. Auden, which feels fitting for someone who trades in language, nuance, and introspection. It’s short, memorable, and has a thoughtful, low-key vibe.

infiniteMe

bless you!!! This was the version that's been in my head for decades

we just unionized last year and the math is the math. We get to see it at our institution. Unionizing doesn't make the pot bigger. I get the desire to improve PhD support and pull from, e.g, the outrageous coach salaries, but unfortunately It just means less PhD students.

I've got a former colleague at a smaller institution that's been pro-Trump since the first round. He even openly agreed that the Dept of Ed should be abolished. While funding cuts are not directly impacting him now, there is absolutely no way his institution is going to survive the next year, even if the Trump admins actions go no further. And if it does.

He's been mighty quiet. Leopards are going to feast hard on his face pretty soon.

infiniteMe

nope, I do that all the time. Not the annoying students, but the ones that tend to do crap work. While I believe each of them realizes they are in a crap team, I dont think they're self-aware to understand that they are where they belong.
