I had a session in a tavern where a group of goblins came running in and hid. This was followed by a troll who was looking for the goblins, because they had stolen some of his “shiny things”. It was a fun session, because the players got the social encounters and tavern games/activities, but then they had the option for combat as well. 

I like to give evil NPC casters lightning bolt. They also have a long narrow escape corridor. They run, party chases, lining up the whole party to get zapped at once.

They also need to prime the drywall and mud before you paint it. Primer dries fast, it will only add an extra hour and a half to the process. For a small repair like this, I would buy the spray can primer. Just make sure you have a big sheet of cardboard handy to shield any overspray.
