Thank god someone actually read that so I didn’t write that all for absolutely no point lol.
Yea both Kenny and Spenny have a deep wealth of knowledge about film and comedy history - they both make call backs to old borscht belt comedy schtick, Marx Brothers, etc early-to-mid century foundational comedy acts and troupes; as well as deep cut film references; both in the show and in interviews done during production through to today, as well as in live shows when they wax poetic about the show to their audience. In Kenny’s lexicon - “we were both film-o comedy nerds”.
That said, having a deep well to pull from, reference, make homage to, and build off of is all great for making content; but it does not necessarily mean you have good media/comedy literacy and analytical skills. Great (and even mid) comedians get why something is funny, sure. But to extend beyond that to being able to analyze your own work, searching for some deeper meaning or implication… that’s a different skillset entirely. One that I don’t think either of the boys have ever really demonstrated that they carry to a strong degree.

During the commentaries, Kenny talks about how they moved to Hollywood together but Spenny bailed on him and hooked up with a rich older woman. He felt really betrayed by this, and the whole show was just an opportunity to humiliate Spenny on TV as an act of revenge.
Kenny says a lot of things.
The show is about a narcissist destroying his relationship with his very close friend for the sake of making a tv show as entertaining as possible - "Without the log, there is no flame"
Kenny has said the show is "about" many things over the years. He's said it's about "happy vs unhappy"; he's said it's a 'documentary' that "exposes" the male ego/masculine archetypes; he's said it's a classic variation of the straight man/funny man dynamic and that The Three Stooges would have tazered each others' testes if they had tazers at the time.
Conversely, Spenny has seemed to be more interested in what the success of the show "says" about the "culture" or the zeitgeist generally. He thinks that people cheering for the "bad guy" (the "heel") speaks to how "this" generation is different compared to, let's say, the silent generation - who grew up watching things like cowboy serials; routing for the good guy to triumph over the outlaws. Essentially crying about the end of the Hays Code
Spenny also thinks the success of the show, and Kenny fandom in particular, reflects a generation without a work ethic; that always looks to take shortcuts. He says this about how he actually worked from the bottom of the industry as a PA; while Kenny just had talent with cameras and editing equipment but wasn't willing to do the shitty stuff - basically being bitter that cream rises to the top and talent succeeds regardless of if you "pay the dues". Additionally he believes that corporate gatekeepers have given up on the idea of self-policing the morality of their content simply in a money-hungry race to the bottom.

I mean I’ve had a peak behind the curtain of what tech companies do with all that data but sure, whatever man

FYI everything you do on the internet matters

Idk man I didn’t even know what to punch in the query box and didn’t know where to start
And the thread got like 200 replies, some with great info and advice for advocating to my doctors/pediatricians for my sons health so I’m calling it a win

I dunno if you’re a man or woman, I suspect you’re a woman however because if you just kinda loiter at the counter of a public men’s restroom you would be horrified by the number of guys that don’t even do the “for show” quick rinse & dry. Just right out the stall to the exit. Especially in high traffic public/touristy places

My guess (also as a circumcised non religious guy) would be he’s either a little defensive over his own body (he’s essentially internalized that if it was done to him it must be necessary and doesn’t want his son to be different or singled out in some way from himself) or he has some outdated beliefs about the value of the practice (there’s old bs science that suggests that it reduces std or uti infections, it’s all either marginal or bad science that hasn’t really been backed up by further peer replication; and anything it would help with.. a condom, vaccine, or safe sex generally would be infinitely more effective at preventing).
If you have another boy, I’d read more into the matter and have some frank non-judgmental conversations with him. If he’s the defensive type and you feel strongly on the matter, maybe take the conversation to couples counseling
My wife really didn’t care at all on the topic so when I told her I didn’t want to circumcise, she didn’t bat an eye

Yea seems like it lol. I’m glad I made the thread though still because I didn’t know about the whole “staying attached for years/up until near puberty” thing. Good to know and the comments here have just set me up to better advocate for my kid

If they keep bringing it up I’ll mention a malpractice lawsuit and I’m sure they’ll drop the matter

It’s a 2 part episode from April 2021 - “Kellogg: The Great American Cum Doctor”

No, they’re adding flock cameras because America is a slow boil surveillance state and will look like China in 20 years if people don’t act. We gave up on the patriot act pretty quick (thanks again for that just like this flock bullshit, single-issue republicans) and now the tech bros are carving America up into a techno-feudal society where you will own nothing and be happy tm.

If you have nothing to hide why even have a fourth amendment?
jackfirecracker
“They” could be anyone concerned about the lifespan of the 4th amendment. Just saying

Oh Jesus, thanks for the heads up

Or I could just teach my kid how to properly clean and care for his body.
If some kid grew up into an adult and was never taught to brush his teeth and complained about constant cavities and bad breath on Reddit, would you pull your kids teeth out in response to one gross adult on Reddit?
jackfirecracker
Decision has been made bro but thanks I guess

If you like podcasts, I think there’s a good episode of the series “Behind the Bastards” that goes into where it came from as a US practice. Spoiler- weirdo religious freaks that think jacking off is bad and think they can stop it via circumcision and strangely enough, eating boring bland food.
jackfirecracker
Someone’s gotta break the cycle. Just like spanking kids, the “boys don’t cry” bs, etc. Just one fewer outdated practice for me to NOT pass down to my son.

Thanks for the info, the heads up on the subreddit moderation, and the welcome! I’m excited too!

Thank you!
To push your analogy even further, being Paul McCartney or John Lennon doesn’t qualify you to analyze why your work in the Beatles was so much better received by the general public than your solo work.
Sure you made all the songs and you got to live through the experience of seeing the totality of your catalog affect people; but I don’t think Paul (rip John) could sit down and write a deep cultural commentary on why “Yesterday” hits the general public (to this day) so much harder than “Maybe I’m Amazed”
