I have shot probably 100 events with Protofo A1 and A1X, and easily over 300 with Godox V860-2. While they’re not directly comparable (newer Godox flashes exist) I can say the usability is very much in the Godox’s favor. The Profoto flashes work incredibly well, but there are limitations. Profoto Air isn’t as good as the Godox RF triggers—Godox works further and more reliably in my usage. Battery life on Godox is better if your usage is intermittent. Godox will sleep but Profoto stays charged and ready so they die quickly while not shooting.

The pricing difference is the cherry on top. Grab yourself a couple V100 and two AD200, a AD100 or two, and save yourself 50% or more, especially at the high end and on modifiers. Profoto is awesome but the price is too high for me.

My editing is probably 2-3x slower in CaptureOne than Lightroom, but the output is better for me. I much prefer the look I get.

I have always shot Nikon, I probably always will. My main associate shooter also uses Nikon, so it makes sense to stay. The cameras are solid, the lenses are solid, so I’m pretty happy. Canon would also be okay, but it would be a huge expense to change.

If someone shoots another brand and they’re shooting RAW, I never have an issue as long as the images are exposed similarly to my own. It all ends up looking the same.

As another has said, CaptureOne has a match look function and it works extremely well for making a whole gallery look the same.

I have shot Nikon for almost 20 years, and my cameras have always produced incredibly flexible RAW files. They can be soft and airy or punchy and colorful. It depends entirely on editing.

My recommendation for you is to simply adjust your editing style. If you want sometthing less punchy, go with a “portrait” profile in your preferred editing application. Drop the contrast a bit, or just open up your aperture for a naturally more airy look. Maybe even bump your exposure comp to +0.7 if you’re shooting in a semi auto mode.

Nikon has extremely flexible RAW files, especially on Z6 III. I’m surprised you’re not getting the output you want.

I have RAW NEF files for the last 6 years at least. I keep the edited JPGs forever, but RAWs I will keep as long as it isn’t burdensome and overly costly. It is adding up at 30mb per image, though. Likely it’ll add up more quickly on my next camera upgrade.

I spent two hours getting switch order corrected on a Catalyst 9300 stack we put into the Meraki dashboard for better monitoring. It’s at a remote site and we don’t have DNAC. Something that takes 5 minutes on traditional CLI based switches took hours in Meraki. Cisco has lost their edge.

I’ve had a few issues that weren’t even documented as a known bug and were addressed in beta firmware. Might be worth a shot.

Bad design, sure. I’ve seen plenty of sites with a MX and a bunch of MS120s though…just because it isn’t ideal doesn’t mean it shouldn’t work. MS120/130 are line-rate switches. They shouldn’t fail at some arbitrary threshold of DNS requests.

jamesonnorth

We’ve had the same issue with MS120 switches with no real resolution. It just starts working again. Meraki MX works fine, MR works fine, but the MS line is garbage.

2015, 133k miles, 64.2mpg. It was up to 66mpg but we took a long road trip and it is climbing back up.

I pay my second shooters $75/hr in Indianapolis unless it’s a flat rate for a shorter event, then they make more.

The gas station/truck stop Subway has been an interstate blessing for me multiple times on road trips.

Their Market Turkey Bacon Ranch sandwich is fire. Honestly one of my top 5 fast food sandwiches.

Flash freezes the action. Half my dance floor shots in the dark are at 1/125 at f/2 ISO 400-800 with a pop of flash. I use a cross floor off camera flash setup. If it isn’t working well, I will add on camera flash for the tiniest pop to fill flash the subject.

We’ve heard they’re trying to attract a white collar downtown crowd, hence going a “different direction” with the staff and commercializing the dive bar aspects of this place, raising prices, etc. They’re not the only bar doing it. Everyone’s trying to stay afloat and stay relevant. Not a fan personally, but gotta do what you gotta do I guess.

1300, and I’d make sure to encourage scientific research so Indigenous people maintained a healthy population when Europeans decided to move in.

No, I’ve always purchased through CXtec for compatible stuff. They’ve never steered me wrong.

I’ve used third-party antennae for years without issue on both Meraki and Catalyst APs. Save yourself some money and buy used/refurb/compatible third party.

If you opportunity charge it but not fully, it’ll read above the rated battery total. I just did a road trip, and we didn’t have reliable access to charging, so I got about 22kWh on that trip. I also discovered there’s an upper limit to the mileage, around 1260 miles. It will still calculate average MPG for the entire trip, but it stops counting miles in the trip.

Senior Network Engineer. Kinda lucked into a job with enough flexibility I learned on the job then got some certifications and advanced from there.

All of us have come from companies where we had between 14-28 days off plus holidays. So we all take at least 21 days per year. We even tell each other “hey you haven’t taken any time off…before we get busy in Fall, how about taking a week?”

jamesonnorth

No, we have decent managers who monitor our workload so we aren’t overworked. We all take plenty of time. Not all companies are awful.

jamesonnorth

Same here. Senior Network Engineer.

We get “unlimited” but really it’s just not tracked so they don’t have to pay out PTO. If you get your work done, you can take the time. I work for a retail company, so the PTO tightens up from November to January because of higher business volume.

RAW and finished JPG are stored in a normal enterprise 3-2-1 setup. 3 copies of the data, 2 different media formats, with one offsite.

For me this means project files are stored on my desktop while working, synced to my home server, that server is replicated to an offsite server, and then my archive is copied to an external drive automatically every day. The drive stays disconnected outside the backup window for some protection against cyber and physical risks on the offsite server.

It’s a bit of effort to set up, but it’s not super difficult, and importantly it’s free to run. I have subscription fatigue and refuse to pay $10-50/mo for everything in life.
