“For a human buyer”… I don’t get it. Are you not selling your product to human buyers?

Treat it like a game studio would: first do concept art, then turn that concept art into renders for 3d modeling (e.g. T Pose for characters, multiple views, etc). For concept art keep refining and making edits. Direct not just the output but the style you are aiming for. After you get something you are happy with have the agent record the learnings + research + references into a reusable skill. Keep updating that skill when you find you have to make additional corrections. And experiment with different pipelines. For example: I use codex for concept art and final 2d renders. For characters and props I use tripo and rig in blender with auto rig pro. For buildings I found it better to have opus build the 3d and codex generate the textures and normal maps, and use tripo for building facades to make them more 3d in areas. For ground, similarly, codex generates the textures and the normal maps and opus implements into the game with the lighting

It’d be more helpful to see screenshots of your current UI and workflow. Happy to give some critique or pointers if you do

jamurai

What model are you using? GPT hasn’t been great for me but Opus 5.5 creates amazing UIs. Provide it with direction, have it research, and have it mock it up with a claude artifact webpage first. Review iterate and then implement. I’ve gone through probably 5 ui redesign to end up with something I’m now really happy with

jamurai

For assets: you can find them in a store for purchase (unity store), or you can generate with tripo (my favorite). For gpt models: they do a great job at image gen and it’s easy to set up a pipeline for GPT images into tripo assets (either upload yourself or have Sol walk you through the process of setting up the API/CLI for it to do it automatically. Just note there is different payment for web vs cli).

For map layouts: have it do research first. Or provide it with examples of games you like. I’m working through this now actually for a city game. I had it research real city data and it’s iterating by creating SVG maps of it before implementing. Have it start by focusing on the large shapes first, put those on “paper” in an SVG and then iterate with it on details filling in the map section by section

You can have AI draw better images, yes. It will rarely on its own. You have to either give it specific pointers, visual references (your own blocking shapes), have it study references online of compositions or styles you like (just like a real artist would). It picks up on those things, learns the big concepts, and can apply it. It takes iteration, patience, and actually knowing what you want and how to describe it. Once you get some good principals and learnings from the AI, have it write it down as a skill for future generations

jamurai

Claude easily if you can only pick one and want a more polished looking and feeling game. My understanding is Claude can’t really image gen if you want to set up game assets with, which codex is quite good at. But you can probably use some online models for image gen or just image gen directly with something like tripo (assuming 3d).

I agree with you completely. It takes a competent dev with good vision and taste to make a good game. That’s always been the case.

And fair point on the decompilation bit too - I saw a post recently of a small dev team who had maybe a few thousand wishlists and someone took it, decompiled it, and released it to the Chinese market first (even finishing their unfinished features). So I do think decompilation is still a risk for indie devs. This may just be the new reality of software in general though, we’ll see how it all shakes out

jamurai

Yeah it is. Claude’s being a good step dad here

jamurai

I think they’re talking about decompilation, which can happen from demos. Also I wouldn’t be so quick to call it “vibe coded slop”, most people won’t notice or care and AI can do a good enough job at getting things right, especially if given access to a game to clone

jamurai

People are resistant I think for social reasons. It’s why people yell about a single AI poster used in one of the best rated small studio games of all time but don’t care if code is 100% ai generated- it’s a surface deep concern. Or a “save the water concern” which is based off a faulty research paper that misreported its findings by some magnitudes of 10. Ignore them. They’ll go away. What matters is good taste, a fun game, and something that looks composed and has soul. Whether it’s AI assets, common game store assets, or handcrafted what matters at the end of the game is that it’s fun and creative

jamurai

Lowkey a vibe

jamurai

How often you open mouth kiss while chewing food

jamurai

Haha yeah it is. It’s ok to use technology. It’s ok to use an engine. It’s ok to use 3d modeling software. It’s ok to use the tools we have - ai isn’t evil. What matters is a good game. A custom engine doesn’t make a good game. Unreal 5 doesn’t make a good game. AI doesn’t make a good game. Who cares what tools you use, you’re always building off of someone else’s work

jamurai

It’s the same for code, text, etc it generates. I understand that visuals are a bit closer to home for users but at the end of the day you can have visual slop whether or it was created by a human or an AI. Art direction goes a lot farther than what entity actually produces it. AI is also just naturally limited in what it can produce, vs talented human artists. For something like this that is just translating existing sprites into new animations I don’t know a human adds much tbh. ROM hacks already are “theft” by nature

jamurai

It’s a romhack. You really think they should hire a team of artists for this?

jamurai

You need some therapy brother

jamurai

I don’t get it… you could always be flexible on custody or time if the two parents are in agreement. That doesn’t need to be spelled out in paper.

I really wouldn’t recommend trying to “appease” her. Honestly, you’re being taken for a ride right now, already paying more than what’s required for child support and then gifting money on top. Just realize that extra money isn’t going to your daughter and you’re funding her life with her BF - accept it for your “flexibility” or actually put a foot down and just say no.

Im saying this as someone who has experience with manipulative people. You have to be clear with yourself on what your boundaries are and hold to it. Keep communication brief, informational, friendly, firm. She will likely try to attack, play nice, guilt you, throw off your schedule, whatever. Just hold firm to your boundaries and have a plan if things get worse (lawyers). At the end of the day it’s important you care for your kid and yourself. Your ex is an adult and needs to learn how to budget their child support to be used on your actual child for the few days they have them

jamurai

You still haven’t explained it other than “cost benefit analysis”… repeating that means nothing

jamurai

She’s getting $1000/month to support the kid on weekends. If she’s blowing that money and can’t take care of the kid then she shouldn’t get the time with the kid. I’m sure first thing judge would ask is where is that money for the kid going?

If she’s not financially responsible enough for the kid then maybe she should have less time or visits or just visits that she can handle

jamurai

At first I was going to say maybe not liable since AI is still so new and people are still learning about how to use it and how the costs work… But then I read he set it up on his personal computer so yeah they might have a real field day with him unfortunately.

OP I’d take this post down and talk to a lawyer

jamurai

The ghost tour is the only one I think is ok. I would replace the skull with the ghost emoji or something that is more flirty. Skull and crossbones is weird. Otherwise it’s a fun idea.

The other two seem like trying too hard. I’d ditch the last one entirely and think of something else that’s chill and lighthearted.

The first one is weird and grammatically horrible but you could probably make the laughing idea work if you really want to keep the idea, but honestly I’d scrap it and do something else. Just write something funny or playful instead if that’s really your thing.

In general, I’d get rid of “and then be the most reliable” and anything like it that feels like you’re trying to prove your worth. Keep it light and fun

jamurai

I’m struggling to understand your sentence right now

jamurai

You’d be surprised, the world is a smaller place than you think especially if you work in a particular area / field. I’ve worked with so many people from previous jobs at various other places by chance. In any case there’s no downside to giving two weeks notice, just consider it part of the job and you can put in your notice two weeks ahead of when you would want to just quit on the spot
