I have a couple of disabilities and cannot get around that well, but I still volunteer at the Humane Society.

It's a fairly complex system and you probably won't get much help out of the housing authority. It took me a little over a year to get the actual voucher and nobody told me that the waitlists to actually get an apartment could take a long time. Once you have the voucher, you have 120 days to use it, or it gets recycled. And finding an apartment that fast is almost impossible. I am also a disabled senior citizen.
I put my name on waitlists for about 40 or 50 apartments all over Washington and Oregon. It took about 2 and a half years before the first one popped up in Washington and I couldn't take it because it was a second floor with no elevator and I'm disabled and can't do stairs.
I was currently living with roommates in Oregon and the apartment manager knew I had a Section 8 voucher. He let me know as soon as one became available, and I lucked out because I could have been on a 6 month wait list. All in all, it took about 6.5 Years from start to finish, but I'm living in a popular city in an apartment complex with a lot of amenities like a pool and weight rooms.
Once you have your voucher, try to find a place that's a little bit out in the boonies and there will be a lot more openings than there will be in a city like Portland or Seattle.

It started out as a homelab/media server and then turned into my daily driver. Movies, pictures, music, documents... if the internet went down, the only thing I couldn't get would be my email. In a pinch, I would just use my 5G phone as a hotspot. Almost everything other than torrent stuff runs on Docker.

Friends and classmates started dying when I was in my mid-50s. We were a couple of years too young for Vietnam.

BSODs, I'm kidding. I'll be 70 next year and I don't game anymore. So that's not an issue. And the one thing that seems to run better on Windows than Linux is voice-to-text programs like Nuance.
I set up a Linux server with Jellyfin, and I was just going to use it for a media server, but it became my daily driver and has been such for the last six months. My Windows computer is on an AM5 platform with a faster CPU, but I still use the Linux box on a daily basis.

Micron and Nvidia are already addicted to high profit margins and that's probably not going to change regardless of what the AI market is like. I'm almost 70 and don't game anymore, so I might be able to squeeze out one more build in 5 years or so, assuming I get a cheaper GPU and used components.

A 75% margin is not capitalism, it's piracy.

There is going to have to be an AI bubble collapse so big that it forces AIBs to return to the retail market.

More spam from the SSA.
"Today, nearly 70 million Trump Accounts are open for all American children". That asshole has his name on everything, whether it's an edifice or not. The whole time I've been on Social Security and Medicare, I'd never got a single email... Until Trump came along. Now I get spam all the time.

Late 60s, early 70s when I was still fairly young. No cell phones, no internet, plenty of outdoor stuff to do and holidays were a blast.

Years ago, baking your own bread could have been fairly expensive, depending on the flour, grains and other ingredients that you bought. Now that store-bought bread is insanely expensive, you're probably better off just baking it at home.

I'm running a Jellyfin server with a RAID array using two 8TB NAS drives. I bought them back when they weren't crazy expensive. I had an old AMD Ryzen computer sitting in the closet, and that's what I used for the media server.

Micron, NVIDIA, and AI companies are bigger pirates than I could ever hope to be.

Forgot it was no longer on github. I've had a backup copy of it on my computer forever. Unfortunately, it does not work with a ton of American sites, but enough to make it worthwhile to keep it installed. I can also access a lot of paywalled sites with my public library card.

I'm a disabled senior citizen and it took me 7 years from the time I put my name on the wait list until I walked in the door of my new apartment. And that was before they started cutting HUD funding.

There is a browser extension called bypass firewall clean on github that works for tons of websites. If that extension does not work for WSJ, I can also access that site through my public library.

I have a Kindle because I got it for really cheap but most people will generally recommend Kobo.

I already have enough music and books in my library to last me the rest of my life. And there are plenty of TV shows and movies that I wouldn't even watch once, much less take up hard drive space with them.

I'll be 70 next year, and the easiest thing for me is to use qbittorrent, and a VPN. I rarely, if ever, download anything that is a program or has an executable, but I have tons of media files. I also have a media server with quite a bit of disk space, so I don't need to stream anything. Check out FMHY.

I have Ubuntu 26.04 running a Jellyfin server. If you even have half the number of movies and TV shows that I have, I would suggest setting up a mirrored RAID with two hard drives using the ZFS file system. The more hard drives, the better, but they are insanely expensive right now. If you have just a single hard drive, you don't need to use the ZFS file system, but I would suggest getting one backup drive at least. I still use Plex once in a while, but the only when Jellyfin, cannot find the right subtitles.
Since I was new to all of this when I set it up, I used Gemini a lot to help me along.

No matter who is on the dem ticket, I am constitutionally incapable of voting for a Republican.
I use two kryptonite locks and don't take up the whole rack, but I also have a smart tag and a motion detection alarm. If I have to park it somewhere temporarily, I usually find a high traffic area. But at home, it's almost impossible to see unless you're standing on top of it.
