As someone who develops software with a GUI I can't wait to use this to prototype and test various UI ideas without having to implement them to see if they're good or not

Your mind is going to be so blown when you read about what Google Genie actually is aha.

It's literally the topic of this whole comment chain, yes

I do actually, daily. I've developed a visual DSL for media arts for quite some time now (https://ossia.io). Claude since opus 4.8 is actually able to use it consistently without issue, through Xvfb or other screen capture-keyboard&mouse event simulation depending on the platform, despite it not even being code in the classical sense, and also being a fair bit different than classic node-based visual DSLs

jcelerier

I mean obviously not. Claude even fable without an agentic loop and strong references / documentation material to check on is completely shit at c++ for instance. But give it an agentic loop to compile, build and run tests, and validate its assumptions and it becomes unbeatable in cost/efficiency ratio

Sir this is a reddit

Actually in today's anthropic s-1 the numbers are more like, they make ~2$ revenue for ~1$ inference cost. So there's no real subsidy

> Is this only a problem if those things are exposed in the public API?

no, it can also be a problem if you're building everything statically and you happen to have multiple versions

jcelerier

It's not really an issue at the linux distro level since everything builds from a single source for most packages. But for instance until very recently boost.asio had no namespace versioning and boost.asio is a super common library. I build plugins for apps both OSS and proprietary that use boost.asio. If said proprietary app uses boost.asio too, but at a different version or even simply built with a different ABI, then hilarity ensues. Then the app I develop (https://ossia.io) added support for LSL (https://github.com/sccn/liblsl) which happens to vendor asio too, at another version that my main build. Hilarity ensued again, especially considering that I cannot hide my boost.asio symbols as said app can itself have dynamically loaded plug-ins that may want those asio symbols. Thankfully boost.asio finally added a macro to version namespace in the last year but this had been a PITA to handle for years.

Another example: pretty much every app that embeds LLVM as a library for instance for custom embedded DSLs, JIT-compilation, etc., and also happen to render 3D graphics are broken on linux systems that use OpenGL as many graphics drivers also embed their own llvm version for compiling shaders, and having two LLVMs in the same address space is as of 2026 still a no-go, unless you're careful with namespacing things through linker scripts. I have no idea how contracts are going to interfere with this.

I'm lucky for you of this is pretty rare. Building an app that bundles ~50 various libraries from all azimuths, I encounter this kind of error at least monthly

Laisse tes pauvres devs please, une interruption de 5 min pour toi si ça leur arrive trois fois par jour avec des personnes différentes ils ont perdu 1h30 de concentration

No, hdmi&dp have ycbcr modes. It makes sense for video: pretty much every recorded video on earth is ycbcr - the Bayer sensors used in cameras usually have twice the green cells than red and blue, so ycbcr is a more accurate representation of the data. If you turn this in RGB at the same amount of bits, you're going to lose precision on the parts you have data for and gain precision for the parts where you don't actually have data for. Or, f you want to keep the precisio, you have to use more bandwidth & thus newer hdmi standards at high resolution. Source: recently built a hardware camera that outputs ycbcr over displayport for customers.

... no, you are 100% meant to ship it. here's the official doc that explains how to do it: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/deploying-visual-cpp-application-by-using-the-vcpp-redistributable-package?view=msvc-170

I build https://ossia.io and bundle libc++ wherever possible in https://github.com/ossia/sdk and it really solves so many problems comparing to building against the OS stdlib

jcelerier

... does windows and macOS ship a rust stdlib .dll with the OS install ?
