Here's an example of what we could be pursuing: Prairie Economic Gateway

I see real opportunities for investment and jobs, especially when it comes to data sovereignty. I'd rather see Canadians' personal information stored here under Canadian laws than on American or overseas servers. But that doesn't mean approving developments without clear rules. I want to make sure we protect our water supply and that developers pay their own infrastructure costs. We need to get ahead of this before applications start coming in.

Fully agree. We've led by example at the local level but the vast majority of negative impact has been from decisions outside our control.

I campaigned on a tax freeze in 2021, several years ago before the full extent of our infrastructure issues were known. I did not campaign on a freeze when running in 2025.

I understand pretty much every Councillor will be hosting an event but if one location/time is more convenient, I don't think we'd mind hearing from you!

JeromyYYC

Greenfield in itself isn't an issue, it's rightsizing the amount of levies/fees developers pay while also requiring a certain amount of industrial and commercial use to reduce the burden on taxpayers. Please contact your Councillor about this ASAP.

JeromyYYC

I wouldn't be asking if this was a done deal.

Thank-you for the links.

Space is only one consideration, another is electricity and water

My grandparents were public school teachers. Thank-you for doing what you do!

I self post to Reddit... Comms team would probably like to change that... But I promised in the campaign I would stay engaged here and manage it personally

JeromyYYC

That's under provincial authority

I understand our admin are actively looking at our storm ponds, grates etc and similar infrastructure

Yes I get off at City Hall station

For ten years, water bills stayed the same. In some years they went down. But Calgary didn’t freeze. We grew. Our pipes got older. Costs went up. So how did Councils keep bills down? We pushed work off. Aging infrastructure stayed in service longer. Maintenance and prevention fell behind. Backlogs grew. Today, we lose almost a quarter of the water moving through our system. Then Bearspaw failed. And on December 30, we came dangerously close to firefighters not having enough water to fight fires. People could have died.

I voted to end the freeze. I know that people will feel disappointed but as mayor I am not willing to gamble with our city's safety. I’m not going to pretend we can keep rates artificially low while the system underneath our feet deteriorates. We tried that. We saw where it got us. I would rather take the political heat for fixing this now than stand in front of you after another failure and explain why we knew the risks and didn’t act.

JeromyYYC

Thank-you. On it!

I understand the frustration. Unfortunately, the provincial government changed the Election Act through Bill 54, stripping municipalities of much of our authority to regulate referendum signs. Calgary is now limited to intervening when signs pose a public safety hazard or interfere with public infrastructure. Even Elections Alberta says it doesn't have jurisdiction over sign placement or size.

This has created a confusing mess across Alberta, with municipalities left navigating rules we no longer control. I believe Calgary should have the authority to enforce reasonable rules on our own streets. Unfortunately, the UCP disagrees.

It was a chaotic situation yesterday and our first responders had to do the emergency rescues, so information was incomplete. 17 is the latest number I've been provided. It's possible further injuries will be discovered after assessments.

I'm usually up around 5 a.m. and try to be asleep by 10 p.m. Whether that happens is another story lol.

Council meetings are usually Monday through Wednesday, sometimes running from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The rest of the week is packed with meetings, community events, site visits, media, and catching up on everything that piled up while I was in Council.

Weekends aren't exactly weekends either. There's always something happening somewhere in Calgary, and I try to get out to as much as possible.

I'd say it's a 70 to 90 hour week depending on what's happening, but the bigger challenge is that you're never completely off the clock.

JeromyYYC

Please stand by, investigation is happening

JeromyYYC

It's very windy on site, I've asked if we can get corrected audio published

For concerns about Calgary Police Service officer conduct, please bring this ASAP to the Alberta Police Review Commission (PRC), the independent civilian oversight body for all police services across Alberta. For legal reasons I'm sorry that I am prohibited from interceding on specific circumstances.
