This should be really simple and it's concerning that licensed drivers are arguing about this. As a pedestrian and cyclist I encounter motorists turnings at high speeds expecting that the road they are turning in to will be clear and endangering me.
The picture clearly shows that the white car has already entered the lane before the green car has made it's left turn. The white car driver has no possible action that they can take to avoid being in the path of the green car except to read the mind of the green car driver and know they are going to make a left turn. No road rule can require mind reading.
The green car must give-way to anyone in the road they're turning in to and they must have slowed to a speed while making that turn that they will be able to do that.

It is you that have changed the scenario. The scenario as pictured has the green car making a left turn. The green car is not established traffic.
You've imagined a scenario where green has already made it's left turn but this is not that scenario.

The situation given applies that the white car is moving slowly because otherwise they would have crossed the lane long before the green car can get there and not conflict would have occurred. If the white car is over the dashed line (ie. in the lane) before the green car comes around the corner then the green car would be at fault for any collision.
This is of course still true If we replaced the white car with an elderly pedestrian, a cyclist, a guy struggling to push a heavily loaded shopping cart, or a child etc.

The white car (perhaps it's not a car but an elderly pedestrian or a cyclist) could be moving quite slowly for whatever reason and thus still be in the lane when the green car arrives. If they're over the dashed line before the green car is established then the green car would be at fault in any collision.

You get to the first bit of straight with broken lines that will allow you to overtake.
People naturally drive at a speed that feels comfortable/safe for the road they're on. Winding roads tend to have speed limits that are higher than what is actually safe and they're just very optimistic that nothing will go wrong. Sensible drivers are going to drive slower than the speed limit on winding roads.
Once the road straightens out it feels safer, and is safer, to drive at the speed limit so sensible drivers will speed up to match the road.
This is also true of when overtaking lanes appear. The road is now wider and they're further way from the oncoming traffic so they feel safer driving faster so they'll speed up.

We've already at 1.5 degrees of warming, we've locked in 1.8 degrees. We're still on a trajectory toward 3 degrees of warming. We don't need more gas.

80km/h freeways are less about safety and more about traffic flow. If you have a busy freeway people fail to leave an appropriate gap at 100km/h leading to phantom traffic jams and merging difficulties.
Traffic flows much better at 80km/h so you can accommodate a higher number of cars with fewer lanes (lower cost).

A core part of Communism is that there is no state.

You are an unfit mother. Your children will be placed in the custody of Carl's Jr.

Nice. Well done. Thanks for doing that.
But do you feel like it was a waste of time because you didn't solve poverty?
Of course not.
Politics is important because while you're helping people there are people with a lot of resources intentionally hurting people that can only be stopped by collective action of a large part of the whole population. Organising marches and the conversations that they prompt are important in getting apathetic people involved. If you can get the people that do care involved then you have some chance of changing the minds of the people that don't.
People are still embarrassed to vote for One Nation and we can keep them small if we keep them embarrassed about it. Support for One Nation looks big in polling but it's currently weakly held.
I've been doorknocking and I've had conversations with people that said they'd vote One Nation but changed that with very short conversation.

We have achieved holding the line against racism and fascism for decades. It's not a fight that is ever over and it's really good to see the next generation taking up the fight.
What did you achieve?

You weren't a very bright teenager? Didn't pay much attention to the world around you?
I was protesting Hanson and One Nation when I was a teenager (13 yrs old) and I'm still doing it now (41 yrs old).

It's a fieldtrip to learn about participatory democracy and the power of the working class.

Bus windows are really important because they effect the perception of buses as a mode of transport and people not using buses is costing us billions$ every year.

Higher taxes is the right choice. We're relatively low taxing. We can tax the wealthy a lot more and recover some of those ill gotten gains.

The North East Link was going to cost $16 billion to build and make $10 billion more than it cost to run....but then it cost $26 billion to build so it's also going to lose money.
In other news, bike lanes make at least $7 for every $1 you put in to them....

My dad would go to every Collingwood game except the ones in other states or at Waverley Park.
jessta
I once did a walk from Collingwood to Aspendale along the Bay Trail. My original goal was Frankston but I hadn't slept at all the night before so I only made it as far as Aspendale.

And yet we're discussing whether the cyclist is responsible for being hit by a car making an illegal left turn.
jessta
Other common rules are that vehicles need to merge in to the turning lane before turning and also a rule about giving way to other vehicles in a lane before changing lanes.
jessta
Yep, This video was recorded in Australia where this is the rule.
jessta
They weren't required to turn. A cyclist can go straight in a left turn lane.
jessta
Yes. The higher speed limits are largely just a weird vanity thing that endangers people for no reason. You don't travel far enough on local streets for a lower speed limit to impact your travel time. How far do you travel on local residential streets during a trip? 1km?
Even including 60km/h arterials motorists only have an average speed of 20km/h.
If you include 100km/h freeways as well that gets bumped up to an average of only 40km/h.
jessta
I agree. If it's not an arterial then it should be 30km/h. If it is an arterial then it can be 50km/h.
Freeways can still be 80km/h.
Cars are only going 20km/h anyway.
Ok, now you're just taking the piss.
If the green car came around the corner and ran in to the side of the white car then the green car would be at fault. If the green car came around the corner and veered out of the lane and in to the path of the white car to go around the white car then the green car would be at fault. Those are the two possible collisions we're talking about.
The white car is already in the lane before the green car is on that road.
I hope I don't encounter you on the road and a hope you don't kill someone taking corners like that.
