Zig doesn't have native refcounted pointers. In zig you pick how you manage memory entirely so cyclic refs will or will not be an issue depending on how you choose to manage memory. With memory arenas for example cyclic refs will not be an issue.

The os doesn't show its file system caches as actual ram usage. Applications rarely scale their caches based on available ram usage (chromium does a little for eg but it's not super significant) so the usage shown is likely in the neighborhood of the minimum they actually need. Simple gui applications should not need that much ram.

Zig doesn't have this behavior anymore

johan__A

What? "Immediate mode" is an API design style.

johan__A

Ha that makes sense, I was trying to find the joke but couldn't find it. Thx

johan__A

Fable 5 was released like 3 month ago

johan__A

Depends on the context, as it is in your example there would be no reason to do it.

johan__A

Looking at the api I wouldn't call that "immediate mode" at all

johan__A

I just used slangc, it works fine with build.zig. Though once the zig spirv backend works well enough (maybe next release or 0.18?) I will probably switch to zig for my shaders.

That's dlc bonus content you don't need to do it to beat the game, you don't even need to do it to get 100% game completion.

johan__A

Never heard it before

to be solved, you would need to be able to physically store all of the possible states of a chess game

This not true, chess engines already take a lot of "shortcuts" to reduce the searching space massively. You could imagine a set of rigorous shortcuts that reduce the search space enough so that a computer is able to solve it.

True... 50% then

Is there even any other couple in silksong? If no does that make it 100% gay?

johan__A

but are these things needed to finalize the language.

Unironically yes (except maybe Spork8). All of these things have influenced the design of the language.

johan__A

I gave crossecode a serious shot (like 10 hours) but unfortunately found it very meh

johan__A

Ho sorry should have read the post description to the end lol mb

johan__A

Neat, what are your plans with it?
Do you plan to put it for free on the marketplace?
Don't forget to ask the Create devs if you do, the textures and models dont have a permissive license.

johan__A

Does it use the native addon system or does it need a community mod loader?

johan__A

Is that an intensional change?

johan__A

How so? Aren't the binaries stored like any other assets? Or does it precompile some jvm bitecode on device?

johan__A

Best guess explanation of why this happens: usually the app will be downloaded compressed fully on disk and then unpacked before the compressed version is deleted so the space needed is the application compressed + the application uncompressed.

There are ways to avoid this but it's kind of a pain in the butt.

johan__A

And then there's VR horror games. Now that's straight up horrible

johan__A

What ms per frame/fps are you getting? What GPU are you using?
