Weird, I guess people all react differently. Shrooms don’t always have a euphoric tail end for me, sometimes they just fade and I’m left contemplating heavy existential shit without resolving any of it. It’s not scary necessarily but it can absolutely fuck me up, even worse than the hours of recursive thought loops you can get with acid. I never get a fear response from DMT though for whatever reason, I kind of assumed I’d get something legitimately challenging by now but it’s usually peaceful and pretty strongly positive, or neutral at worst.

This is exactly what I was just talking about. It is braindead easy to vaporize material without wasting it with a pulsar, and I have leather lungs so I have no issue with holding massive inhales. Read the report if you want. People will literally say “well you must be wasting it all” before they accept that different people experience DMT differently, as with every other psychedelic. People can have ridiculously intense experiences without it being the same stereotypes over and over.

I’m assuming from your phrasing that you haven’t tried it. I mean, it will definitely break down your ego and normal perception thoroughly, but for me it feels more like experiencing my subconscious without cognitive inhibitions, and within 30 minutes you feel pretty much normal. Technically you could have a psychotic break if you’re genetically predisposed to schizophrenia or something, but the same is true for any intense psychedelic experience. I’ve never heard of anyone smoking DMT and going insane from it

I use the second to highest(3 squares). You have to pulse it for a while to melt the material before you inhale though, then let go for a few seconds, and hold it as you inhale. I also have the bubbler attachment which makes life a lot easier, you can see the hit you’re about to take
keepitoutofsight
That’s kind of hilarious, but yeah I don’t know how I would process that either, I don’t know how anyone integrates that

I’ve had pretty similar experiences to yours, for both shrooms and DMT. The peace and clarity on the comedown definitely extends to high-dose experiences for me as well, actually generally speaking it increases the more I take. Also for the nausea you get on shrooms, you could try lemon-tekking, your stomach will still feel weird but the nausea becomes a nonissue for me.

I wouldn’t describe it as a party drug. Light doses just give me tinnitus, quiet my thoughts, and mess with my vision for a few minutes, and if I take a larger dose I’m going to want to lay down. Not to mention people being loud tends to detract from the experience for me. If I’m partying, I’d want something like acid or 2cb, something more emotional than cerebral

I most definitely have, I’ve had doses up to 60mg which is twice the established “breakthrough” threshold. I have a trip report about that. https://www.reddit.com/r/DMT/comments/1wl5vof/60mg_breakthrough_trip_report/ And I have an APX volt, so I have no problem getting 35-60mg doses properly. People always describe breakthroughs as some monolithic, universal experience, but I don’t get anything like the usual reports, I’ve never been in a hallway or waiting room, or felt like there was a membrane to push through. People in this space like to ascribe any experiential difference to not smoking enough material, but evidently even when I take an excessive amount I just experience it differently. Could be because I’m wired differently being neurodivergent or because people propagate stereotypes about the experience, I have no idea.
keepitoutofsight
That’s definitely not my problem, with 60mg out of an APX volt I figured I took too much because it felt as intense as it could possibly be, but I couldn’t make almost anything specific out besides a feeling of infinite bliss and occasional fragments of visuals through the bright light. And the FO side of it is relatively tame for me. When I first started, I was projecting my expectations onto the trip, so the visuals seemed to be hidden in my periphery until I was able to let go of that and accept the experience. I tried combining it with weed one time, and got really stupid visuals of stoners and tvs and shit, which made me never try that again. Usually it’s pretty obvious when I’m doing something wrong, but the worst that happens is that I feel mocked and know not to repeat whatever the problem was.

Neither has ever felt threatening or sinister to me, but I can see how DMT could go in that direction for other people. I’ve been surrounded by weird, grinning entities multiple times, but it always feels more mischievous than sinister. Then again, I’m always very deliberate about my mindset and only do it alone or with people I trust absolutely. I’ve also heard of a lot of people getting really dark impressions at ayahuasca rituals about the environment and the people hosting them, especially at the American facilities.
keepitoutofsight
Come to think of it, I’ve never tried keeping my eyes open for the entire trip, the closed eye visuals are usually what I’m focused on. When my eyes are open I can’t make out anything I’m looking at, my brain can’t piece together what shapes and objects are. I remember one time looking at my fiancé’s face and they had like 6 eyes and weird, breathing skin that looked like dough. I’d like to try that in nature from some vantage point, it would definitely be interesting.
keepitoutofsight
Is it really just the sudden onset? I’m not bothered by that at all, it’s like 20 seconds of tinnitus and weird visual distortions before I lay down and close my eyes. I get why someone would prefer to be eased into it but you can do that with DMT too if you take a small hit first
keepitoutofsight
Yeah, shrooms have fucked me up worse than anything else. Acid is more emotional which can be difficult in the moment, but mushrooms are really uncomfortably existential. Last time I took them, I ended up devastated about the lack of harmony in my life, and wondering how I could find beauty in the world. It took me days to recover from that
keepitoutofsight
The playfulness is a very prominent aspect for me. Almost every time I see an entity, it’s smiling at me and gets right up in my face. Even when I feel like there’s a legitimate lesson, it doesn’t have that seriousness until the peak is over and I’m reflecting on it.
keepitoutofsight
I think setting isn’t as important with DMT as other psychedelics, you’re going to close your eyes and not be aware of your surroundings anyway. If you’re getting the sense that you’re not taking it seriously enough, why not just make a ritual out of it? Light a candle, meditate for a while, verbalize your intention, burn sage, all that good stuff.
keepitoutofsight
Agreed, I struggle more with longer experiences but I also get the most value out of them. I find DMT actually quite tame comparatively, it’s mostly visuals and vague, strong feelings, I don’t have much time to process my thoughts until after the experience. I have never had a legitimately challenging experience like with acid or mushrooms. If I was hooked up to an IV for several hours or taking aya, I’m sure it would be a different story.
keepitoutofsight
A breakthrough does not necessarily mean maximum possible intensity, it depends what you’re going for. In my experience 60 is too much though, it was fantastic but so overwhelming that I couldn’t even really make out details of the experience, the visuals were basically just bright light. I have a proper vaporizer which is pretty foolproof, but I can absolutely notice a difference between 35 and 60.
keepitoutofsight
A lot of people prefer freebase, and you don’t need to use a crack pipe. There’s dabbing rigs, the sandwich method, vaporizers and emesh work really well
keepitoutofsight
For some reason DMT always feels pretty comfortable to me, even during breakthroughs or ego dissolution, actually especially then. Intensity usually isn’t what gets to me when I’m tripping, it’s those introspective, recursive thought loops that you usually don’t have time for with DMT
keepitoutofsight
Pretty much any psychedelic will do that if it’s something you still have deep-seated guilt and shame about until you process it, avoidance is rarely going to help you. You should be aware of that going into any psychedelic, especially longer lasting ones that will leave you in that headspace for hours.
keepitoutofsight
Imo DMT and LSD are kind of on opposite ends of the psychedelic spectrum. LSD is mostly emotional and sensory, things feel amplified and interconnected. DMT is extremely cerebral, and in my experience not strongly sensory. When I’ve tried to listen to music with DMT, it tends to feel like it’s just there and not really enhancing the experience, although one time I had a Doors song unexpectedly come on while I was peaking and completely steal the show.
keepitoutofsight
Assuming you’re freeze precipitating. Yeah, that’ll happen, the whole reason the crystals form is because the solvent can’t hold the material when it’s sufficiently cold. If you remove them from the freezer, the temperature rises and the crystals are reabsorbed, that much should be self-explanatory. You should remove all of the solvent immediately and then dry the crystals with a fan

I wouldn’t recommend it, I’ve noticed psychedelics tend to help me through the opposite of the ways I expect. If I want to find harmony in my life, they show me how much is fundamentally wrong or missing, and why I can’t be at peace. If you start relying on them to process a recent loss, I worry that instead of getting some feeling of contact, you’ll get hit with cold hard reality in a way you’re clearly not ready for. At least with DMT there’s less of a concern for this because of the duration, but I would still be wary, at least try therapy first.
Interesting that you had a full year worth of experiences before you had one that really messed you up. I don’t know, I respect DMT in that I’m always mindful about my headspace and intention, but I haven’t been given a reason to fear it at any dosage. Maybe it’s just because it’s over so fast that I don’t get to process what it all means until the tail end. I want to try smoking it with an MAO inhibitor, see if that lets me actually work with the space more.
