Maybe dfv wanted it to happen 1 or even 2 years earlier but things weren't ready for whatever reason and here we are. Personally, while I enjoy tin foil, I don't have high hopes. I think we can all agree that some high quality tin has rarely played out.

Even if GameStop pushed the button and bought shares in the open market for 2 billion with their stock repurchase program, I doubt it will push the price above 32 USD, as the market makers will simply fail to deliver and deliver them after the expiration date. But let's see what happens.

This is sth I was always curious about. Will there be new C64 hobbyists? Apparently, there are. Can you elaborate a bit more what got you into it?

This is a very evangelistic view. RAII is a tool that either fits how you solve a problem or it doesn't. Calling it outright wrong is just very narrow minded.
knue82
It's an impressive C hack, no doubt about that. But calling this parametric polymorphism is really a stretch...
knue82
Call it what you want. In the end of the day it fakes parametric polymorphism through a text preprocessor with well-known problems.

I'm sure as hell know exactly what I'm talking about. I'm referring to C++20/23 std::format/std::print - which is a function template. I had a typo above and accidentally wrote std::printf.
See: https://youtu.be/zssTF1uhxtM
And to compare macros to templates for code bloat? Not on the same level.
Just look up STB/STC etc in the other thread which does exactly this.
knue82
There are plenty of big C++ projects out there - such as LLVM - which completely disable exceptions. Yes, templates can lead to bloat but that's kind of the point of templates. If you don't want code specialization, use void* - how you would do things in plain C. However, in C++ you can often still put your type-safe template mambo jambo on top of it, like std::printf works. Also, in plain C you often use macros instead (poor person's versions of templates) - which lead to exactly the same code bloat - but you don't have the option for type-safe template-wrapper code - as in std::printf.
Most C++ programmers wouldn’t be able to do that.
That's a strong statement and lacks any evidence. Kernel devs not understanding plain C, though, is quite an infamous fact. Just look up all the flame wars of bug reports on GCC etc wrt undefined behavior etc. Sure, C++ has the same problem.
Finally, there are several OS kernels which use C++ such as ReactOS, Windows NT, and others.
All that being said, I'm not promoting to use C++ for the Linux kernel.
knue82
Also, you have to keep in mind what we are comparing here. Templates are oftentimes one of the more criticized aspects of C++ from plain C purists and things like STC essentially fake templates with wild macro magic ...

I'm not here to convince you. If you like that, it's totally fine. But for me I really don't want to completely do deallacations manually. Also your example doesn't look so great anymore if you want to have other containers that do a bit more than a dynamic array, esp if the involved data types are more complex than just pointer or int.
knue82
I'm well aware of these approaches but none of them strike me as pleasant to use.
knue82
To be fair that was 2007 and C++ has gone a long way since then. But I also agree that C++ isn't a beautiful language. All that bring said std:: vector alone is for me reason enough to use C++ over plain C.

Funny, how the price always spikes on the news of the filing and not from the actual buy pressure. lol

It's a super fast SQL parser. Not more, not less. The goal of this was initially a showcase for my FE project I also linked. The target audience is more researchers working on databases and need a SQL parser.

Pretty sure, he doesn't think too much about it and actually uses a bunch of different techniques, depending in which direction the pick is currently pointing. He is definitely doing some small sweeps crossing 3 strings or so here and there. He is also doing some economy picking, letting the sweep fall through the strings on a string change. But he is also using some classic alternate picking and some alternate picking + legato to get over the strings.
