The problem is Islam has never had any sort of reformation, and it still doesn't want to have one. Yes there are more moderate countries and groups, but they all ultimately follow the same early medieval book. Even in Turkey today, considered a moderate Islamic country, we see democratic back sliding all in the name of religion.

The liberals who shrug their shoulders and say everything will work out, are gambling the future of the west. I only hope it all does work out.

If used to incapacitate (not kill) then a Force choke is no different than any other Force power. Presumably he just put the guards to sleep not crushed their larynx (as Vader did). I don't think you can here the crushing noise when Luke does it here

There is nothing to state in the canon that a force choke is a weapon exclusively of the dark side. However the use of it here creates questions later on as to why he doesn't use it against the Rancor or against Jabba?

I think it would have had to have been fairly large to be able to compete with the Imperial military. It was partly made up of the self defence forces of the worlds that joined the alliance, many of these worlds were powerful militarily in their own right such as Alderaan and Mon Calamari. Then again a large part of the Alliance military manpower must have been taken out along with Alderaan by the Death Star
