I thought laundromats are still a thing in the US of A...

My insurer's telmed seems actually helpful. AFAIU they're trained nurses and will redirect me to the telmed GP if what I'm dealing with is not worth the trip to my GP. Just the ability to stay in bed and get the cert for work without moving is worth it for me.

US Military has done some research. Apparently 30 years after original expiry date they're still safe and effective.

You can go ahead and strap the wheel to the frame.

You could have a full carbon European bike for 2000 for years, yet here we are.

Just as I started walking the bike up that slope, which also wasn't easy, I was passed by a retiree on a proper mountain bike. Without electric assistance. With a big smile on his face.

I live at the feet of the Alps and my FTP is in the whereabouts of 3W/kg. I can ride almost anywhere on a gravel bike with MTB gearing. The last time I had to give up on a climb it was when I lost traction on loose rocks on a 21% gradient.

Acknowledging is not what you want, fixing it is. But that would cost money...

The point stands: 3 days is a bit odd duration for a full recovery and typically you need more to not infect your colleagues. Your doctor should know best, just don't ask them for a short duration due to some pressure from work.

The real downside is the time you spend chasing down a shop that would actually have the trim and size you want.

The science on this is not as conclusive as YouTube would have you believe last summer. But "stay in zone 2" is a very good proxy for what I'm willing to go through after an endurance ride (or even better: intervals) in the morning, full day in the office and then the ride back home.

Roadside assistance, as well as hotel and/or replacement car for continuing my journey, is included in my insurance package. It's not even _that_ expensive.

50km at 90km/h is 33 minutes 20 seconds, at 125km/h it's 24 minutes. Saving 9 minutes of your time is nice, but not changing the course of the day. Doing a 1000km drive though, which is below what my car is mostly for, that's over 3h of difference. It's fun to explain to family members why driving faster is safer for me...

I have the highest and the lowest tier DT Swiss hubs and the wheelsets swap seamlessly with no shims. I have the same model rotors and cassettes (Shimano 10-51). I don't expect it would be so smooth with different gearing (chain length would be perfect for at most one of them).

On long flat tarmac I sometimes wonder how much speed I'm leaving on the table by doing this. But I live on top of a hill and I'm not strong enough to do a 9% climb at a comfortable cadence in zone 2 with 1:1 gearing that comes on "climbing" road bikes.

I find mud on the glasses even more disturbing than on the pants.

Which is still useful to ensure predictable loads and concentrations in the sewage? A couple years back my employer had a global programme to save water. They presented to the Swiss authorities what they achieved. Someone told me that concluded with "Impressive. Now undo all of that and don't ever mess with our flow models again."

Replace AI watermark removal with AI upscaling then? ;)

The protein is fine, the milk might not be. Read the entire label. On balance, if you want a treat to compensate yourself for enduring the shopping, it's not a terrible one. But health-wise and money-wise you'd be better off grabbing a bag of protein powder and mixing it with milk yourself.

The coolest summer of the rest of our lives...

Heh, I ride almost exclusively my gravel bike... But for now I'm not using anything wider than 35mm. The 50mm clearance goes to waste, I don't ride enough chunk to use it.

But these companies can offer top notch quality and, uh, not top. Doesn't matter it's the same factory floor, you get what you pay for... Well, the brand gets what they pay for and the question is whether the new owner's idea of growth is to start paying less while selling for the same price.

lrem

Using muscles over their capacity causes them to grow (growing happens in the recovery after that). There’s a certain amount of muscle you’ll put on your legs by just cycling. After that you will be bottlenecked strictly by your heart and your legs won’t grow any more. People saying cycling is no good for muscle gain assume you’re already there. Most cyclists are, it doesn’t take long, but sedentary people have quite a bit to gain.

> Wouldn't buy a bike with suspension if you want a true quiver killer that you're going to do serious road riding on. You can always buy an aftermarket fork if you really feel like you need it after a couple of backpacking trips.

I thought that having a suspension-compatible geometry in a bike sold with only rigid forks is a rather rare circumstance. After all supporting X cm of travel requires extra X cm of space, taking you away from road bike handling and aerodynamics.
