Hints and callback to what?

Tetris is amazing for this. It requires attention and thinking in a way that’s very engaging, but does not involve thinking in words at all, leaving the auditory and language processing parts of your mind free to get sucked into a podcast or whatever. You can simultaneously lock in to the rotating blocks game, into whatever you’re listening to, and somehow also totally zone out, and somehow all this without being a puzzleslop attention farming style “App Store game”
I actually almost cant listen to anything without whipping out Tetris

To me the switch look for big name Multiplatform 3d games is always “the best looking Xbox 360 game you ever saw”. I know it’s technically a lot more complicated than that, and that actual Xbox 360 era games usually play and look better on switch than they did on that console, but… Fenyx rising on switch? The outer worlds on switch? Those are some of the most impressive Xbox 360 titles I ever saw

FYI, not every single member of a species has to be able to single handedly kill a large animal for the species to be an “apex predator”
luv2hotdog
I think our even bigger, much more basic advantage than that is that our big brains let us figure out how to tell each other where hungry predators are and then remember not to go there

What’s in hamburger helper anyway? I think I get the idea that it’s a premade seasoning blend that you cook into ground beef to make a sort of meat slop…? But I’ve no idea what sort of flavour it has.
My mum sometimes used to fry off minced meat with a pack of instant chicken or onion soup mix or a few tablespoons of gravox and call it savoury mince and I’ve been assuming hamburger helper is like that, but for some reason my assumption has always been that it’s heavy on paprika

There aren’t enough people in this world who love The Magicians ✨there are some truly stunning episodes in season 3 and 4. In every season really, but those were my favourite. Six short stories about magic? Some of the best TV I’ve ever seen

“After all” kinda reminded me of sanremo by mika. And a lot of dedicated puts me in mind of the better bits of his origin of love album. I’ve always thought that the two of them would be a great blend, musically and also in their sorta dorkily endearing sincerity.

The cup shin ramyun is good! The noodles are thinner than the pack version and it has more dehydrated vegetable flakes. I used to get it as a treat over the pack coz of the smaller serving size and IIRC there are yummy sliced mushrooms in it that rehydrate really nicely

Suimin is by far the best chicken noodle. I don’t know what they put in their broth to make it so much better than all the others but it’s really something special as far as basic bitch MSG laden chicken stock powder goes.
They have both “chicken” and “oriental chicken”, and I prefer chicken
Years ago I saw some listicle on buzzfeed or pedestrian or wherever where someone tried all the most common cup chicken noodles in Australia and this was their winner, and it’s my winner too - even including the stuff you can get at asian grocers!

Primary school aged kids I know see “you had to wait until your show was on to watch it” and “if someone else in the family wanted to watch something else at that same time, we had to argue about it” the same way I saw “tv was in black and white” and “TV stopped at the end of the day and there was just nothing on until the next morning”

What has changed is that for the most part, people dont watch free to air “live” tv anymore when they “watch tv”. The way people watch tv has fundamentally changed

Epic gets a lot of hate but I’ve always kinda seen them as “the good guys”. They seem to have kept a lot of the open and creative nature from way back when it was tim Sweeney selling ZZT via floppy disks through the post. Some of my favourite computer gaming memories are from epic. Jazz jackrabbit! One must fall 2097! Tyrian!
I loved shareware in general and I’m glad they’ve still found a way to keep “it’s a full featured game and free to play (but we’re hoping you like it so much that youre willing to pay for the the extra bits)” going in some form, and I like that they’ve still got a free game creation engine which anyone who is halfway interested in can just download and learn to use through the online community.

I recommend the first one. It’s a much more streamlined experience. Theres no levelling up or loot with different stats, which means you’re always playing at the “right” difficulty for the area you’re up to. You never have to grind to level up to get past a boss, you can’t cheese it with a great build and end up way overpowered (or underpowered!) just coz of your luck with the loot. So I like it much better as a straightforward game because of that.
DS2 also famously can feel over long. We’re on the fan forum here so maybe people here don’t feel the same way about it, but outside of megafans, part of the general consensus on DS2 was that the story felt really padded in a lot of places. I am someone who likes long games and even for me, the way DS2 does it, there are multiple places where I really felt like I should have been done with an area two or three quests before the game let me move on

I have both a switch 1 and 2. It being handheld is very important to me. I am still annoyed that the switch 2 has less battery life and is therefore less handheld than the OG!
When I got the switch I had planned for it to be the secondary console and expected to be continuing to play most of my non-Nintendo exclusives on my PS4, but I don’t think I ever bought a ps4 game again. Turns out Im one of those people who is very happy to trade graphics quality for the couch and bed portability!
Not that you asked, but the controllers being removable is the next most important thing. I’ve always been surprised people don’t talk about that more outside of the switch. I’ve never ever had a home console where I didn’t need to replace the controller at some point, so why would I want a handheld where I can’t do the same if I ever need to?

Hades and / or dead cells. Hades has a proper story alongside the roguelike structure that plays out largely in the home base area between runs, meaning that even “bad” runs will usually progress the story in some small way just by virtue of there being new dialogue at the home base
So its massively engaging both from pure gameplay where you want to do “just one more run” each time because you feel sure you’ll get further next time, AND because it gives you good incentives with unlocking more powers and weapons as you get through more and more runs, AND just because you want to see what happens next in the story
Dead cells sort of has a story in that there’s a game world and very light lore scattered through the game, but its easily ignored and not important to the game at all. The gameplay is far more varied than hades though, with a frankly stupid number of unlockable weapons which all play very differently to each other. I can’t stress enough that this isn’t a game where there are X number of swords but they’re all reskins of the same sword animation and specced differently - each and every weapon is unique, unique animations, unique hitboxes. You can get a ton of wildly different builds going.

Everyone hated aero too didn’t they?

I dont think so. The people who would vote otherwise in that circumstance are already voting otherwise. The greens brand is excellent at being the default catch-all uninformed leftie “i dont know about all this politics stuff but why can’t we just do all the good things” vote. And as much as I dont like him, with max chandler-mather heading their think tank they’re not going to have any shortage of ideas for banger populist “policy” to keep vacuuming up that demographic with.

Today. Carly Rae Jepsen’s new double album feels very intentional with the track sequencing, even with the “continued” edition bonus tracks included, and more than the sum of its parts. It was a good journey to go for a long walk with

OG Indomie is my is my favourite! My go to additions, perfected over 25 years of eating indomie:
White pepper, specifically the stuff that comes pre ground in a tube. I like it better than freshly ground for this. (Side note: hot and spicy mi goreng is mid at best. Optimal indomie spicy is achieved by adding tons of white pepper to OG indomie)
Dehydrated onion flakes. These are sold at supermarkets (in Aus at least) in the herbs and spice section of most supermarkets. More straightforward onion flavour and crunch than the fried shallots that are usually used (but those are good too if you prefer them)
Sliced button mushrooms, boiled in the water with the noodles or microwaved then added
Plastic cheese just placed on top and left to melt if you’re feeling cheesy
And finally Any kind of runny yolk egg. Poached, fried, it doesn’t matter as long as the yolk is still runny.

Re: “no one wants to film you”: this just isn’t true for women, unfortunately.
(Obligatory the following applies to men as well but to a lesser extent)
“Candid photo” porn exists. If you’ve got a body type or article of clothing, there’s a thriving fetish underworld for it somewhere online. People already can and do take and upload photos and videos of random women going about their days to jerk off to

Gone home was my first of this type of game, and it’s just such a special experience. I played fire watch the year after and loved it too, but it doesn’t get that special “first time” place in my heart.
I loved the more open space you get to explore though. The cosy feeling of being in your watchtower, and venturing out into a chill environment knowing you’ve got a cosy base to return to - they captured that so well, and it having a story on top of that made it 👩🍳💋
Mine is black and white but has wifi. It means I can print straight from my phone or tablet - if the device is on the same network as the printer then its as eat as pressing “print”. I firmly agree with the sentiment otherwise but wifi is a worthwhile feature IMO
