I would have preferred him to cancel and say "You're SOL." I was just fine with everything until he instructed me to cancel the transaction.

macmoreno

Yeah, it's the principle of the matter, really.

macmoreno

I have my moments lol thanks

macmoreno

Sure thing!

macmoreno

Fingers crossed!

macmoreno

Thanks. That’s the plan! Just wanna see how this goes down

macmoreno

Oh absolutely

macmoreno

I remove antagonistic posts all the time. If I don't catch a post, I can't remove it. If it doesn't get reported, there's no guarantee it will be read. It's a group effort.

macmoreno

No, it's "not perfect." The posts I removed are "actively antagonistic" and were not posted in the spirit of problem-solving.

macmoreno

Epictetus said, "If you want to improve, be content to be thought foolish and stupid..." I have no problem being wrong. It's part of the human experience. I'm just a guy trying to follow the rules. The more I know, the better I can do it.

I received a modmail message, and I think the response should be public. Here it is:

I assure you I'm not tone-deaf to the community's concerns. However, community opinion and general consensus aren't necessarily the same as having verifiable information about what WotC does and doesn't permit.

First and foremost, I'm a player and DM myself, and my commitment is to helping build the best community possible. I'm not interested in enforcing restrictions simply for the sake of enforcing them, nor am I interested in alienating the very people we're here to support.

To that end, I've already reached out to WotC's legal team and my former Wizards Play Network representative (I used to own a brick-and-mortar game store) for clarification on what content creators are permitted to share.

Once I receive guidance, I'll provide a formal update to the community, and we'll review and revise our rules as appropriate to reflect WotC's policies and permissions.

I understand the frustration, but I'd rather make an informed decision based on actual guidance than assumptions, regardless of how widely those assumptions are shared.

macmoreno

Ok, you've had your say and the snark and name-calling has begun.

macmoreno

If WotC shares something on their socials, then it's assumed to be open. But a video from an influencer with screenshots of closed content is not the same thing.

macmoreno

You are conflating their actions and inactions with our responsibility.

macmoreno

This is WotC giving out copies of the book saying "Go talk about the book." Not "Give everyone spreadsheets and screenshots detailing everything in the book."

macmoreno

Here's the thing: We don't see those agreements. We have to take the word of the individuals making the posts. It's not up to us to deliberate over what may or may not be allowed in that capacity. The rules (which were set LONG before I became a mod) simply mean if it's not public information, we can't share it here in the community.

macmoreno

Ignoring that this is a violation of Rule #2 in itself (like Fight Club, we don't talk about Fight Club), the issue is that the videos are blatantly displaying screenshots and clips from the book. Protected content. This simply is not allowed. It isn't a matter of what WotC will or will not enforce with these people; the rules here are the rules that we have to enforce. We are aware that there are ways to acquire this information. It's one thing to share a video that discusses the content. It's another to share videos that give away an entire class. If WotC wanted this information to be public, they'd have released it.

EDIT: Against my better judgment, I'm going to leave this post up and open so people can ask any clarifying questions they want. If it devolves into name-calling and general discussion that is non-constructive, I'm just going to lock it down.

macmoreno

Love me a good critism.

macmoreno

Gone are the days of “Me vs. DM.”

macmoreno

That’s exactly what it is. Because DeepL uses AI for the translations.

macmoreno

Heck yeah, I’m in!

macmoreno

That doesn’t sound very promising. If I read you correctly, you didn’t end up working with them?

macmoreno

I appreciate the input :)

macmoreno

Dang, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you at least have a great campaign?

macmoreno

Care to share numbers? How much the campaign goal was, how much you actually made, how much they wanted in the marketing budget? Was it a percentage of the goal, or just a recommended ad spend amount?
