These look great. I’m sure my kids would love them as well. We’ve also done pizza toast as a quick lunch for them which they love.

We do pizza night every Friday with homemade pizza dough.

For the sauce it’s just equal parts tomato puree and water. Then add oregano and garlic, pinch of salt, sugar and pepper.

I think it was a great task personally. Not because anyone did anything particularly imaginative but just because of the in-built jeopardy of seeing people completely underestimate how to measure certain things.

Taskmaster is always at its best in high contrast. So the competence porn of watching Richard’s methodical approach compared to Matt/Chloe’s guess and check, compared to Isy kind of estimating but getting a bit lucky is great. Added bonus you really get to enter into the task as a viewer and think about your own approach.

markdavo

That’s fine but why, especially on a Mike Flanagan subreddit, are you making a post that says “literal grasping at straws to try and defend the show”?

The explanation in the book makes sense - it’s set in the 1970’s. Sex ed was different.

The explanation in the show makes sense - she was home schooled.

I like both the book and the show. I don’t think they’re in opposition to each other.

Yeah, the writers strike was more of a blessing than a curse for the show since it meant they could just ignore the killing and move on. You can blame the strike for the lack of resolution, but I think it probably worked out for the best that it was largely ignored.

The first season had poor ratings so the network got involved and wanted a murder storyline to attract viewers in season 2.

Thankfully the writers strike happened and they were able to drop it without doing irreparable damage to the show.

So, I’m going to respectfully disagree that we’re seeing a much weaker version of the show than the outtakes suggest.

Instead what we’re seeing is much less of Richard in the main show because if we saw all his banter in-studio then no one else would get a chance to get a word in.

I’ve really enjoyed Richard in the past 2 episodes because we’ve seen tasks he seems to have enjoyed alongside him trying to take on Greg (and Chloe) with complete nonsense arguments.

Taskmaster should always be about contrast. We’ve got a competitive Chloe, a rule-breaker Richard, head-in-the-clouds Isy, laser-focussed Nina, and Matt is there too.

What we’ve not seen enough of is Nina and Matt really being able to get that back and forth with other contestants and Greg. Yes, we could turn this series into the Richard show, but that’s not the philosophy of the show, and never will be. So instead we get an extra five minutes of him arguing with Greg in the outtakes.

Sky Team is one I play with my 6 year old.

It’s specifically 2-player so a fun one to play together. You act as pilots and must land a plane. I especially like that it is kind of like a campaign which gets more difficult as you try the next airport (ie level) which gradually adds in more rules/concepts.

In the rules, no communication is supposed to happen after you roll a dice.

Because it’s co-op it’s easy to adjust rules a little to ensure she can play along. This involves me “narrating” what I’m doing and why so she can think about which dice to play where. So I might play a 4 on the steering part and say “to keep the plane balanced you need to play another 4 or, if you play a 3 or 5 the plane will only move a little.”

Obviously, the more we play the less I need to narrate things but I do like that with co-ops it’s really up to you how difficult to make it, and you can help them learn the game with little adjustments.

I have a few pairs of Craghoppers kiwi and they meet a lot of your criteria (they’re all blue/black, breathable, have belt buckles and fine for a light shower). However, I would wear waterproof trousers over them for a downpour.

I don’t think it’s possible to get trousers which are fully waterproof and breathable.

I assume you’re referring to the 52 book club challenge (which isn’t officially a part of this subreddit, but are a lot of users who do both).

2027 is set to be released at some point next month.

They do have mini-challenges each month. Here are October’s:

Most consistently funny episode of the season IMO. Danny Dyer week was great but a few of the weaker sketches were carried by him. Where as I felt both the writing and performances were spot on, and it was great to see a host take on so many different types of characters.

Modern Music and Princess in the Tower were my faves. But even the weakest sketches in the episode made me laugh a few times. I also appreciated just how much variety there was, and that it felt like each cast member got their own moment to shine.

markdavo

Lewis Capaldi would be a great host even his music is fairly bland.

markdavo

Yeah, although I think it balances out with Nina’s 5 points for her song task when hers was objectively the worst (although perhaps as a result the funniest).

markdavo

I think Richard does want to be there. He just has no interest in scoring points, and that is an important distinction.

He’s a comedian who is constantly deconstructing things and finding comedy in that.

He’s happy to give up on tasks if they don’t particularly interest him but he’s also consistently trying to be funny by pointing out why it’s a valid strategy to stop half way through the time limit, or arguing back with Greg/Alex even when he knows he’s in the wrong.

The wrapping task last week is a classic Taskmaster moment because we see Richard finally try on a task and get one over on Greg.

markdavo

Frankie Boyle was the same with his paintings.

At least it’s part of Nina’s persona, and they all are very genuinely different and interesting.

I think the imagery of throwing away the England flag is pretty clear and the film is essentially an exploration of what it means to be English (especially in the 1980’s).

As for the fourth wall break, in general it represents a character inviting us to be a part of the story they’re in. In This Is England, we see Shaun looking for guidance throughout the film, especially from older males. So it’s possible he’s now looking to us for guidance or input. “What next?”

However, it’s also possible it means something else entirely.

markdavo

??? Not sure what you mean by that.

We’ve had similar issues with our first and third and decided to continue breast feeding. Things eventually settled down with our first after 8 weeks and we’re at a similar stage with our third (who is now 6.5 weeks) where we seem to be through worst of it.

One thing to check/ask about is a tongue tie. This can be a cause of babies not feeding as well as they could. All our kids have had tongue ties.

Another thing we do is make sure there’s a window where I feed the baby expressed milk and my wife can sleep. This is normally between around 9 and midnight.

I also try and do as much tidying, laundry and cooking as possible so that my wife can just focus on feeding/comforting the baby.

I don’t think it’s as simple as him intentionally doing a pro-ICE movie given what we know from statements made from Danny Trejo and people who worked production:

“According to Gilbert and his agent, Gloria Hinojosa, it wasn't until the film was two weeks into filming that the Danny became aware of Ben Shapiro's and the Daily Wire's involvement.
Gilbert also asserted that Trejo was legally obligated to finish the film and could not badmouth it or make a statement without the risk of being sued for breach of contract.
A crew member, who chose to remain anonymous, reported to IndieWire, that they were told that it was a "fun action movie" and that they quit after discovering its politics. They also stated that about a dozen other crew members quit their posts for similar reasons.”

Season 2 will be completely new in terms of Carrie but seems clear it will link to other parts of Stephen King/Dark Tower universe. So we may get elements from other King books like The Shining/Dr Sleep, Firestarter, and The Institute.

markdavo

Confidently wrong.

Yes, EP’s can be showrunners and/or stars. But they can also simply be legacy EP’s who helped a show get going but will not get involved after that.

Gervais/Merchant are both EP’s on US Office. They helped get the show going but consciously had no input after season 1.

Another good example is Fran Rubel Kuzui, and Kaz Kuzui who helped get Buffy the film made. They retained EP status on the show, you’ll see their name on every episode in the credits, but again they had zero creative input/control over any episode.

markdavo

A completely meaningless position. Much like Ricky Gervais was EP on the American version of The Office, it basically means Lorne is getting paid for SNLUK but is not inputting on a week-to-week basis.

markdavo

If I were to limit myself to actors who have worked with Flanagan before then I think Matthew Lillard could be great as Man in Black.

If not, I think James Norton (Ormund in HOTD S3) could be really good in the role.

markdavo

Yeah, it feels like an American producer (Lorne?) was against him and now the show has found its feet they’re more prepared to embrace the weirdness and heritage of British sketch comedy by getting him in.

markdavo

The counter point is it’s generally much cheaper to make. Hence the ridiculous amount of prize money for shows like Squid Game and Wonka that would otherwise be spent on actors’ pay.

markdavo

It’s a great course if you don’t need to worry about getting a job at the end of it.
