The successor of the 5D line is the R6. The R8 is the entry-level full-frame body with the same sensor.

Both are much better in low light and have a much better autofocus.

All modern cameras have decent video as well.

See if you can pick up a used R8; they are around $1000.

If he was using a private camera and filming your data, this is certainly illegal.

If he was filming in an official capacity for some reason, then SBB needs to jump through some hoops to make it legal. I would expect them to do that.

But we don't know if he was actually filming. You don't know if there was a camera and if it was switched on.

markus_b

No, it is not. Most contracts and agreements have no requirement to be in written form to be legally binding. The main reason most contracts are written and signed is just for proof in case of a dispute.

Damit nicht jeder dahergelaufene Eidgenosse mit seinem 5000er die speziell kostbaren Zürcher Schlösser öffnen kann.

markus_b

This is quite likely. The 230 number may be from Elon and overly optimistic. I fully expect the 300 for Raptor 4 to be the same.

markus_b

I usually duplicate the exposure module and make a simple oval mask covering the areas I want to brighten. Then I increase brightness by up to 0.5. The main difficulty is to make the change in a way that it is not apparent.

markus_b

Nice job removing the sticks!

I would lighten the face up a bit.

Mine still has foreign plates

Then the import process is not completed from the Swiss point of view. The Swiss authorities don't know officially about this car. You can just drive it back and sell it.

The bigger problem may be your home country. If you exported it, they may want you to import it again and pay VAT.

markus_b

You may be right. But from what I read, they moved them inside to be able to drop the external shields between the raptors. I suspect both are true. They removed what they thought they didn't need and moved the rest out of the fire (and view).

markus_b

They have redone Raptor 2 into Raptor 3 with new manufacturing technology (3D printing) and added the engine protection circuitry. They did hope to increase performance, and the success in this area was limited. I don't know why you think they removed their ability to debug it.

markus_b

Such developments are always two steps forward and one step back. I'm sure the "clean" and "fewer parts" help. If only to make room for further improvements, like Raptor 4. In IT we call this "refactoring" to get rid of "technical debt". If you don't do that, you end up in an unmaintainable mess.

markus_b

Interesting. This removes the performance increase we saw from Raptor 2. Maybe the Raptor 2 number on Wikipedia is optimistic as well...

And what Elon projects for Raptor 4 may not materialise before Raptor 5. He tends to be overly optimistic.

markus_b

The Merlin is not too bad. But the thrust-to-weight ratio of the RS25...

markus_b

Here is a comparison table (numbers from Wikipedia):

Engine Raptor 1 Raptor 2 Raptor 3 Raptor 4 Merlin 1D RS-25
Sea-level thrust (tf) 185 230 250 300 86 189
Engine mass (kg) 2,080 1,630 1,525 1,500 470 3,490
Thrust-to-mass ratio (approx.) 89 141 164 200 183 54

Looks like there is steady progress!

Edit: Fixed type, added Merlin and RS25

markus_b

This is not an oscilloscope question!

Read chapter 7.3.11, Power Good Indication (PG). It describes the function of the PG pin. The short description of the pin you show is very confusing.

The PG pin is open-drain. That means there is a MOSFET in the chip with the drain connected to the pin. The pin/MOSFET can pull the pin low, but you need an external pull-up for it to become high. When the power is bad, the pin is pulled low; when the power is good, the pin is pulled up with the external pull-up resistor. See Figure 7.3 on page 25 and Figure 8.2 on page 43.

You probably can connect a LED with a suitable resistor to a voltage source, and it should light when the power is bad (and your source supplies power). However, I find this not very usable.

The data sheet talks about 'asserted high', which makes no sense in the context of an open drain output. It is incapable of 'asserting high', it can only 'assert low'. If you want a 'power good' LED you need to connect a MOSFET to the PG pin to drive your LED.

I would get in contact with TI and talk to an application engineer who knows this chip.

markus_b

Maybe. But certainly your name and birthday were probably scanned with the QR code as well.

markus_b

I don't know. You should ask the authority delivering the certificate. Most likely because they use the same procedure as for Swiss people. Their working instructions say they need valid birth certificates, so that is what they ask for.

markus_b

I'm not aware of any.

I doubt that it makes sense for the carrier. The setup far data is pretty simple. Telephony is way more complex with legal rules and interconnection to local and remote carriers, etc. Then there are few customers who actually demand this. So setting up an offering is probably not worthwhile.

I find it interesting how some of the lowest-priced subscriptions have "unlimited" data.

Maybe you'll find a prepaid card, and you just don't use (and don't pay for) data.

markus_b

that the physical original was issued under 6 months prior

This I agree with. I don't believe in rebirth, so the birth certificate will not change for a given person.

markus_b

The birth certificate is the foundation of many other documents afterwards. Citizenships, passports, whatever depend on it to be correct. So I fully understand that the authority delivering it wants the paper trail to be correct. And having proper documentation for the parents is the basis for this. Having the corresponding certificates is necessary and not unreasonable.

If you are from a country where such things take months, it is not the Swiss authority's fault that it takes time and is expensive. The blame for this entirely lies on your country of origin.

But it is your fault for doing things late. You knew that the birth was coming up and that getting the documents will take time. If you would have started the process early, you would have had your documents in time.
